Marjum (मरजुम) is a village in Dantewara tahsil (now Katekalyan tehsil) of Bastar district in Chhattisgarh. Author (Laxman Burdak) visited this village several times.

Location

According to Census 2011 information the location code or village code of Marjum village is 450221. Marjum village is located in Katekalyan tehsil of Dakshin Bastar Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh, India. It is situated 18km away from sub-district headquarter Katekalyan (tehsildar office) and 56km away from district headquarter Dantewada. As per 2009 stats, Marjum village is also a gram panchayat. The total geographical area of village is 571.89 hectares. [1]

Marjum has a total population of 1,682 peoples, out of which male population is 880 while female population is 802. Literacy rate of marjum village is 6.90% out of which 8.41% males and 5.24% females are literate. There are about 339 houses in marjum village. Pincode of marjum village locality is 494449.[2]

When it comes to administration, Marjum village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. As per 2019 stats, Marjum village comes under Dantewara assembly constituency & Bastar parliamentary constituency. Bade Bacheli is nearest town to marjum for all major economic activities, which is approximately 56km away.


History

Author (Laxman Burdak) visited this village several times and mentioned in his diary of 1982-83:


25.11.1982: DarbhaTongpal 7-8 hrs by truck 20 km then to Marjum 11 km on foot reached Marjum at 12.30 hrs. Took statements of villagers regarding complaint against RA Agahan Singh. Checked marking in Bispur felling series coupe-10. Back to Darbha 11 km on foot and 20 km journey by truck reached Darbha at 20.30 hrs.

28.01.1983: Darbha - Bispur and Marjum 70 km checked marking in compartment-237 coupe-10 Bispur felling series. Reached Bispur 8.30 pm. Halt Bispur.
