Purushwar (पुरुषवार) /Paurushwar (पौरुषवार) is gotra of Jats.[1]
Origin
This gotra is said to be originated from Purushpur (पुरुषपुर), the ancient name of Peshawar (पेशावर), now in Pakistan. [2]
History
In ancient times the city was known as Purushapura (Sanskrit: पुरुषपुरः) when it was officially founded by the Kushans. Peshawar occupies a region that was dominated by various tribal groups of Aryan origin. The region was part of Gandhara, and had links to the Harappan civilization of the Indus river valley and to Bactria and Afghanistan. [3]
