Late Ch. Pratap Singh Daulta (Kadian)

Chaudhary Pratap Singh Daulta (Kadian) (born 13-04-1918) Son of Subedar Major Man Singh Kadian, was a member of Second Lok Sabha (1957-62) from Jhajjar-Rewari constituency of Punjab. Haryana was part of Punjab in those days (Haryana was separated from Punjab on 1 Nov. 1966). He fought this election as Communist Party's candidate.

He was born on April 13, 1918 in Cheemni village which is now part of Beri tahsil of Jhajjar district.

An Advocate by profession, Ch. Pratap Singh had studied at D.A.V. College, Lahore and Law College, Lahore.

A Freedom Fighter

During pre-Independence days, Ch. Pratap Singh was associated with Unionist Party and was imprisoned a number of times in connection of farmer movements.

He was also Vice-President of Punjab Kisan Sabha (1953-55) and President, Punjab Young Zamindara Association (1943).

He was famous by the nick-name Daulta and was a popular leader in Jatland areas.

MLA in new Haryana State

After formation of Haryana in 1966, Ch. Pratap Singh Daulta was got elected MLA for Haryana Vidhan Sabha from Beri constituency in 1967 (on Congress Party's ticket) and again, in 1972 (as Independent candidate).[1]

चौ. प्रताप सिंह दौलता दूसरी लोकसभा के लिए 1957 में झज्जर-रेवाड़ी संसदीय क्षेत्र से चुने गए थे। 13 अप्रैल 1918 को झज्जर के चिमनी गांव में पैदा हुए प्रताप सिंह कादियान गोत्र के थे। ‘दौलता’ उनका प्रचलित नाम था। उनके राजनीतिक जीवन की शुरुआत यूनियनिस्ट पार्टी से हुई थी। वामपंथ के प्रति उनका रुझान इस कदर था कि अपने बेटे का नाम भी रूसी नेता बुल्गारिन से प्रेरित होकर बुल्गारिन सिंह रखा था। 1957 के चुनाव में कम्युनिस्ट प्रत्याशी दौलता ने कांग्रेस नेता घमंडीलाल बंसल को पराजित किया। अगले चुनाव में वे हरियाणा लोक समिति के प्रत्याशी जगदेव सिंह सिद्धान्ती से हार गए। हरियाणा बनने के बाद 1967 में वे बेरी विधानसभा क्षेत्र से कांग्रेस प्रत्याशी के रूप में चुने गए लेकिन 1968 में मध्यावधि चुनाव में हार गए। 1972 में दौलता निर्दलीय चुनाव जीतकर विधायक बने। (दैनिक भास्कर, रोहतक - दिनांक 15 अप्रैल 2019)
