Ramgarh (रामगढ़) is a village in Oudgi Tehsi of Surguja district in Chhattisgarh, India. The Ramgarh hills are nearby.

The village code of Ramgarh village is 432629. Ramgarh village is located in Oudgi Tehsil of Surguja district in Chhattisgarh, India. It is situated 110km away from sub-district headquarter Oudgi and 145km away from district headquarter Ambikapur. Ramgarh has a total population of 447 peoples. There are about 94 houses in Ramgarh village. Baidhan is nearest town to Ramgarh which is approximately 50km away. [1] It is situated on Rehar River.

History

The Ramgarh hills are a popular tourist destination.[2] There are many caves in Ramgarh. It is also believed that Lord Rama has come here and lived during his exile. This is the theater of Kalidasa (one of the biggest poet in world of Sanskrit). Here, if someone speaks in the theater his/her sound can be heard far away. In another cave there are some paintings of ancient time. Also there is a long hole, it is believed that when Rama lived here this hole was used to keep a watch on invaders. It is also believed that Ramgarh lies on the way to Lanka, the Ravan (The demon who kidnapped Sita) took Sita (wife of lord Ram) from.

Ramgarh is the most ancient in the historical places of Surguja. It is located in Ambikapur-Bilaspur road. It is also called Ramgiri, the Ramgarh mountain is in the shape of HAT (cap). Ramgarh is the center of Sodha due to Lord Rama and Mahakavi Kalidas. According to an ancient belief, Lord Ram brother Lakshman and wife Sita had resided in the Vanasthan period. Right here, Jogi Mara is due to the Tapas Ves of Rama, Sita Bengarga in the name of Sita and Lakshman cave in the name of Lakshman.[3]

Sita Bengra Caves

Sita Bengra Caves are situated on the Ramagiri hill of Ramgarh in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh, India. There are situated near Jogimara Caves in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh. It is known for rock paintings of 300 BC.

According to legends during their exile in these caves hid heroes of Ramayana epos – brothers Laxman, Rama and wife of Rama – Sita. Hence comes the name Sita Bengra – "Residence of Sita".[4]

रामगिरि

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[5] ने लेख किया है ..... 2. रामगिरि AS, (p.788) = रामगिरि छत्तीसगढ़ के सरगुजा ज़िले (भूतपूर्व सरगुजा रियासत, मध्य प्रदेश) में लक्ष्मणपुर से 12 मील पर [p.789]: स्थित एक पहाड़ी है, जिसे 'रामगढ़' कहा जाता है। इस पहाड़ी की गुफ़ाओं में अनेक भित्तिचित्र प्राप्त हुए हैं। एक गुफ़ा में ब्राह्मी अभिलेख भी मिला है, जिससे इसका निर्माण काल डॉ. ब्लाख के मत से तीसरी शती ई. पू. जान पड़ता है। कहा जाता है कि इसी स्थान पर 'उग्रादित्याचार्य' ने अपने वैद्यक ग्रंथ 'कल्याणकारक' की रचना की थी। इसमें शायद इन्हीं अलंकृत चैत्य गुहाओं का उल्लेख है। कुछ लोगों के मत में कालीदास के 'मेघदूत' की रामगिरि यही है।

रामगढ़ पहाड़ी

रामगढ़ सरगुजा के एतिहासिक स्थलो में सबसे प्राचिन है। यह अम्बिकापुर- बिलासपुर मार्ग में स्थित है। इसे रामगिरि भी कहा जाता है, रामगढ पर्वत HAT (टोपी) की सकल का है। रामगढ भगवान राम एवं महाकवि कालीदास से सम्बन्धित होने के कारण सोध का केन्द्र बना हुआ है। एक प्राचीन मान्यता के अनुसार भगवान राम भाइ ल्क्ष्मण ओर पत्नी सीता के साथ वनवास काल मे निवास किए थे यहीं पर राम के तापस वेस के कारण जोगी मारा, सीता के नाम पर सीता बेंगरगा एवं ल्क्ष्मण के नाम पर ल्क्ष्मण गुफा भी स्थित है।[6]
