Story on India Today website dated 14 August 2021

Ravi Dahiya became only the second Indian wrestler to win a silver medal at the Olympic Games after he lost the men’s freestyle 57kg title clash 4-7 to reigning world champion Zavur Uguev.

Ravi Dahiya endured a painful bite on his biceps from opponent Nurislam Sanayev during the Tokyo Olympics semi-final. After Ravi Dahiya scripted one of the greatest comebacks on the mat, the pictures revealed the deep bite mark on his right bicep.

“I did not want controversy. My focus was on the game. The next day, that wrestler came and apologized to me. Friends, because of this I did not complain,” Ravi Dahiya told Aaj Tak on sports conclave.

The fourth seed Indian trailed 2-9 after Sanayev effected a few ‘fitley’ (leg lace) but as the clock ticked away, Dahiya regrouped and got hold of his rival with a double leg attack that resulted in a ‘victory by fall’.

Despite a huge deficit, Dahiya did not panic, showing tremendous mental strength and dramatically turned the bout in his favour.

The wrestler from Nahri village in Haryana had outclassed Colombia’s Tigreros Urbano (13-2) in his opener and then outwitted Bulgaria’s Georgi Valentinov Vangelov (14-4) in the quarter-finals.
