Origin
Jat Gotras Namesake
- Rohan (Jat clan) = Rohina = Salmaliya (साल्मलीय). Rohina is a village in Basna tahsil of Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh. Salmaliya(साल्मलीय) is mentioned in Verse-23 of Rajim Stone Inscription of Prithvideva II - Kalachuri Year 896 (=1145 AD).....Salmaliya (साल्मलीय), granted for the naivëdya of the deity, is said to be now deserted and in lieu of it the village Rôhana (रोहन) situated not far from the ancient site of Salmali (साल्मली) was subsequently granted. It lies 10 miles south-east of Rajim in the Mahasamund tahsil and is still appropriated to the worship of Râjïvalôchana. (p.453)....(V. 22) Such is Jagapâla. He has caused this beautiful temple to be constructed for manifesting the splendour of Râma . (V. 23) He has granted a village named Salmaliya (साल्मलीय) to provide for offerings of food (to the enshrined deity). Those who will become kings (in the future) will always preserve (this gift) (p.457)[3]
