Runkata (रुनकता) is a small town in Kiraoli tahsil of Agra district in Uttar Pradesh.

Location

It is situated on the NH19 (under new National Highways naming scheme published by NHAI in 2010), earlier NH2, popularly known as the Grand Trunk Road. Runkata is a Village in Achhnera Block in Agra District of Uttar Pradesh State, India. It belongs to Agra Division . It is located 16 KM towards west from District head quarters Agra. 9 KM from Achhnera. Runkata Pin code is 282007 and postal head office is Sikandra (Agra). Artauni ( 2 KM ) , Panwari ( 3 KM ) , Muranda ( 3 KM ) , Akabara ( 3 KM ) , Kharbai ( 3 KM ) are the nearby Villages to Runkata. This Place is in the border of the Agra District and Mahamaya Nagar District. Mahamaya Nagar District Mahamaya Nagar is South towards this place . Also it is in the Border of other district Mathura. History

Runakta is known specially for its association with the great poet Sur, famous as Surdas ,an ardent Krishna devotee. Runakta is the starting point of what is called as Brij Bhoomi or the land of Lord Krishna.

रुनुकता

रुनुकता (AS, p.797): रुनकता आगरा, उत्तर प्रदेश का एक छोटा-सा ग्राम, जो मथुरा-आगरा मार्ग पर मथुरा से 10 मील की दूरी पर स्थित है। इस ग्राम का प्राचीन नाम रेणुका क्षेत्र कहा जाता है। किंवदंती है कि यहाँ महर्षि [p.798]: जमदग्नि का आश्रम स्थित था। रुनकता ग्राम में एक ऊंचे टीले पर जमदग्नि और उनकी पत्नी रेणुका का मंदिर है। नीचे उनके पुत्र परशुराम के नाम पर प्रसिद्ध दूसरा मंदिर है। (रेणुका के नाम से संबद्ध अन्य स्थान के लिए देखें चंद्रवट) जनश्रुति है कि महाकवि सूरदास का जन्म रुनकता ग्राम में ही हुआ था। ये मुग़ल बादशाह अकबर के समकालीन थे। सीही नामक ग्राम को भी सूरदास का जन्मस्थान माना जाता है। पारसौली नाम के ग्राम में सूरदास का निवास-स्थान बताया जाता है। रूनकता में यमुना नदी पूर्व दिशा की ओर बहते-बहते एकाएक घूमकर कुछ दूर तक पश्चिम की ओर बहती है। [2]
