James Tod[1] writes that in the Panjab Mor is the name of a Jat sept which worship the peacock (mor) because it is said to have saved their ancestor from a snake (Rose, Glossary, iii. 129). There was a settlement of this tribe at Sarangpur on the Kali Sind River (ASR, ii. 228).

The village when visited by Alexander Cunningham in early 1860's is said to be inhabited by 1,400 people belonging to Hindu Tribe of Mor. In addition to them other than them Muslims also resided there.
