Vinod Kumar Shanwal
Dr. Vinod Kumar Shanwal (डॉ विनोद कुमार शनवाल) is a Research Associate, awardee of Research Fellowship from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi. The title of his research is "Role of emotional intelligence in psychosocial problems and coping strategies among children and spouses of alcoholism patients" and the research is being carried out at Institute of Human Behavior & Allied Sciences (IHBAS), Delhi since October 2004. Recently, he has been honoured by The Week magazine by including his name in the selected list of "Emerging Indians 2007" in its August issue under 'Science and Technology' category through survey conducted by "The Week-IMRB". He has presented papers in few International and national conferences and also delivered lectures frequently on the topic of emotional intelligence.
Higher Education and Research
Dr. Shanwal was awarded Ph.D. from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi for his dissertation, A Study of Correlates and Nurturance of Emotional Intelligence in Primary School Children. He is doing research on emotional intelligence since 1999. As part of this research he has generated and adapted a measure of emotional intelligence for Indian primary school children. He has also made an attempt to nurture emotional intelligence on a group of primary school children based on the Western theory (Mayer & Salovey, 1990). He is the author of the book Emotional Intelligence: The Indian Scenario and has published four additional chapters in books and two more are currently in press. Dr. Shanwal has written thirteen additional research papers/articles and has conducted five workshops. He is recipient of “Young Scientist” and “P.B. Buckshey Award” for best paper presentations in the International and National conferences respectively. Recently, he has been honoured by The Week magazine through by including his name in the selected list of "Emerging Indians 2007" in its August issue under 'Science and Technology' category through survey conducted by "The Week-IMRB". He has presented papers in few International and national conferences and also delivered lectures frequently on the topic of emotional intelligence. In addition to above he has also been contributing articles in The Mirror, Kurukshetra and national leading newspapers etc.on the issue of emotional intelligence.
On Various Bodies
He is life member of various academic associations like Indian Science Congress, Kolkatta, and Life Associate Member of Indian Psychiatric Society and Indian Psychiatric Society- North Zone etc.
He was on the panel of World Associate of Value Education (WAVE) and was the Assistant Coordinator in Indian Coordinating Committee for “International Conference of Mental Health with a symposia on Transcultural Psychiatry in February, 2005. He has been one of the members in the International Planning Team of 5th Annual Conference of NexusEQ, “Leading with Emotional intelligence: Tools and wisdom for a sustainable world”, Holland in June 2005. He has also Joint Coordinator in the organizing committee in 2nd National Level "Dissemination workshop on HIV/AIDS counselors" training curriculum (2006) organized by IHBAS, Delhi on behalf of National AIDS Control Organization in August 2007. He has been resource person for few national in service training programmes.
