MAYNA or MAINA (मायना/ मैना) is a small-size village in Rohtak district of Haryana.

Location

It is situated on Jhajjar-Rohtak road, very close to Rohtak city. Jawaharlal Nehru canal flows near this village. Being very close to the main city, some of its lands have been acquired by Haryana government for various housing projects etc. Names of neighbouring villages are Karauntha and Khedi Sadh.

History

Ram Sarup Joon[1] writes about The Mann Chiefs Of Mughul Chak: Chaudhary Ladha Mann of this dynasty, came from Sidipur Lowa in Rohtak district and settled down in Gujaranwala. He founded a small village named Maina. Thereafter, he became the Chaudhary of 22 villages. Sardar Mahatab Singh of this dynasty occupied 82 villages due to the weakness of the Mughal Emperor. He was a member of the Bhangi Misal.

Notable Persons

Harphul Singh wrestler and warrior who was in 6th Battalion, the Jat regiment and died fighting against the Germans during WW II.
