Khajjiar (खज्जियार) is a hill station in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, India.

Location
It is located approximately 24 km from Dalhousie[1] and 14 kms from Chamba on Chamba- Dalhousie Road. Khajjiar sits on a small plateau with a small stream-fed lake in the middle that has been covered over with weeds. The hill station is surrounded by meadows and forests. It is about 6,400 feet (2,000 m) above sea level in the foothills of the Dhauladhar ranges of the Western Himalayas and peaks can be seen in the distance.[2] It is part of the Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary. Khajjiar can be reached from Dalhousie, the nearest major town and hill station, by bus in an hour or so. It has a rare combination of three ecosystems: lake, pasture and forest.
History
Khajji Nag temple: A little away from the lake is the temple of Khajji Naga belonging to the 12th century AD made by the king of Chamba Preeti Singh . The temple has a golden dome and due to which it is also known as 'Golden Devi Temple'. In the mandapa of the temple one can see the images of the Pandavas and the defeated Kaurvas hanging from the roof of the circumambulatory path. The sanctum of the temple has been beautifully carved from wood.[3] This temple is dedicated to Nāga worship and there are some snake idols inside. The temple also has idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Hadimba.
Khajjiar Lake is a small lake, surrounded by saucer-shaped lush green meadow and a floating island. The dense growth of weed called vacha has made its earth spongy. Now the banks stand covered by a thick layer of earth, formed by the years of dust settling down on the weeds.
खज्जर
विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[4] ने लेख किया है ...खज्जर (AS,p.253) हिमाचल प्रदेश में स्थित एक ख़ूबसूरत स्थान है। यह स्थान समुद्र तल से 6400 फुट की ऊँचाई पर है और चंबा-डलहौज़ी मार्ग पर, चंबा से 9 मील (लगभग 14.4 कि.मी.) की दूरी पर है। यहाँ का प्राकृतिक सौन्दर्य बहुत ही मनोरम है। इस स्थान पर देवदार वृक्षों से घिरी हुई एक सुन्दर छोटी-सी रमणीय झील है, जिसके बीच में एक द्वीप है। अति प्राचीन खाजी-नाग के मन्दिर के नाम पर इस स्थान का नाम पड़ा है। खज्जर में नाग पंचमी के दिन एक मेले का आयोजन भी होता है। यह स्थान प्राचीन नाग जाति से सम्बन्धित है। कुछ विद्वानों का मत है कि आर्यों के भारत में आगमन से पूर्व कश्मीर और पंजाब के पर्वतीय इलाकों में नाग जाति के लोगों का निवास था। लॉर्ड कर्जन ने 1900 ई. में खज्जर की नैसर्गिक छटा पर मुग्ध होकर इसे भारत का सुन्दरतम स्थान बताया था।
