Basra (बसरा)[1][2] is gotra of Jats found in Punjab, India and Pakistan. Basra (बसरा) Jat clan is found in Shahpur : Basrae (बसराए), a Jat clan found in Amritsar. [3]

Origin

This gotra started from their ancestral people who came from place called Basra Iraq. [4]

Distribution in Punjab

In Gurdaspur district the Basra population is 858. [5]

Distribution in Pakistan

The Basra claim to be of Saroya Rajput ancestry. Found mainly in villages around Pasrur in Sialkot District, and in neighboring Gujranwala District. Some also settled in the canal colony districts of Faisalabad, Sahiwal and Sargodha in the 19th century.
