विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[1] ने लेख किया है ...गदावसान (AS, p.278) नामक स्थान का उल्लेख महाभारत, सभापर्व 19, 25 में हुआ है-'दृष्ट्वा पौरैस्तथा सम्यग् गदा चैव निवेशिता, गदावसानं तत्ख्यातं मथुराया: समीपंत:' महाभारत के इस उल्लेख से सूचित होता है कि गदावसान मथुरा के समीप वह स्थान था, जहाँ किंवदंती के अनुसार 'गिरिव्रज' (मगध) से जरासंध द्वारा फेंकी हुई गदा 99 योजन दूर श्रीकृष्ण के समक्ष जाकर गिरी थी। संभव है कि यह गदा उस समय का कोई दूरगामी अस्त्र रहा हो।

Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 31 mentions the Kshatriyas who brought tributes on Rajasuya sacrifice of Yudhisthira. Gada (गद) King is mentioned in Mahabharata (II.31.15). [3].... And Rama and Aniruddha and Kanaka and Sarana; and Gada, Pradyumna, Shamva, and Charudeshna of great energy; and Ulmuka and Nishatha and the brave Angavaha; and innumerable other Vrishnis--all mighty car-warriors--came there.


Vana Parva, Mahabharata/Book III Chapter 48 Describes Rajasuya sacrifice of Yudhisthira attended by the chiefs of many islands and countries. Gada (गद) Kingis mentioned in Mahabharata (III.48.24). [4] ...O chief of the Kurus, assisted by Rama and Bhima and Arjuna and the twins and Akrura and Gada and Shamva and Pradyumna and Ahuka and the heroic Dhrishtadyumna and the son of Sisupala, slay in battle in course of a day Duryodhana and Karna and Dussasana and Suvala's son and all others who may fight against us.


Shalya Parva, Mahabharata/Book IX Chapter 44 describes the Kings and clans who joined the ceremony for investing Kartikeya with the status of generalissimo. Gada (गदा) (Weapon) is mentioned in Mahabharata (IX.44.105). [5]... Some were armed with maces (गदा) and Bhusundis (भुशुण्डि) and some had spears on their hands (शूलासिहस्ता).
