Pench River (पेंच नदी) is a tributary of the Kanhan River. Its catchment is situated in Chhindwara, Seoni districts of Madhya Pradesh and Nagpur district of Maharashtra.

Pench River originates from Satpura hills near Junnardeo in the Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh, passes through Parasia, Singora, Singori, Chaurai, Chand in Chhindwara district and flows across Pench National Park, forming boundary of Chhindwara and Seoni districts before entering Maharashtra. It fills Totladoh Dam in Maharashtra and later merges in to Kanhan River.

Pench National Park

The river separates Pench National Park into two halves, east and west Pench. The Pench Tiger Reserve derives its name after the Pench River, which flows from north to south across the reserve. The reserve is situated on the south of the Satpura Hill Ranges in the Seoni District and Chhindwara District in the Madhya Pradesh state of India. The topography is undulating, with most of the area enclosed by small hill ranges and abrupt slopes on all the sides. The Pench river flowing through the centre of the Reserve is usually dry by April, but a number of water pools, locally known as dohs, are found along the course of the river. These serve as waterholes for wild animals. A few perennial springs also exist in the region. Recently, a number of earthen ponds and shallow wells have been created, providing well-distributed sources of water across the reserve.

The two big dams of the Pench River supply water to the city of Nagpur and to the big thermal power plant located there. Machagora Pench dam supply the water to Seoni district and Chhindwara district for agriculture through irrigation canals.

पेंच नदी

पेंच नदी भारत में मध्य प्रदेश और महाराष्ट्र राज्यों में बहने वाली एक नदी है। यह कन्हान नदी की एक उपनदी है।

मार्ग: इसका छिंदवाड़ा ज़िले की तहसील जुन्नारदेव से लगे सतपुड़ा पर्वत श्रेणी के दक्षिण पठार में उद्गम होता है। दक्षिणपूर्वी सीमा पर इसमें तीव्र मोड़ आता है और यह दक्षिण की ओर मुड़ जाती है। नदी का बहाव तेज होने के कारण बरसात के समय यह नदी उग्र रूप धारण कर लेती है, जिससे इसमें बड़ी नदीयों के समान भव्यता होती है। कुलबेहरा नदी इसकी सहायक नदी है। पेंच नदी परासिया, छिंदवाडा, चौरई के माचागोरा बाँध से होते हुए झिलमीली, चाँद पहुचती है। चाँद से कुछ किलोमीटर की दूरी पर कुलबेहरा नदी भी पेंच नदी से मिल जाती है। इन दोनो नदीयो के संगम से पेंच नदी का आकार ओर बड़ जाता है। आगे यह नदी सिवनी ज़िले के पेंच राष्ट्रीय उद्यान से होते हुए महाराष्ट्र में प्रवेश करती है।

नागपुर ज़िले के तोतलाडोह बाँध से होते हुये यह नदी कन्हान नदी में मिल जाती है। कन्हान, पेंच तथा बावनथडी वैनगंगा नदी की सहायक नदी है। यह नदी आगे जाकर गोदावरी नदी मे मिल जाती हैँ। इस प्रकार इस नदी पर 2 बाँध बने हुये हैं

माचागोरा बांध: मध्यप्रदेश के छिंदवाड़ा ज़िले में चौरई तहसील के माचागोरा गाँव मे जल संसाधन विभाग के पेंच व्यपवर्तन परियोजना के अन्तर्गत यह बाँध गांव माचागोरा में बनाया गया है। साथ ही 2 पावर प्लांट से 1320 मेगावाट की बिजली भी बनेगी जिसे आदानी ग्रुप ने पहले ही अधिग्रहण कर चुका है। पेंच नदी पर निर्मित यह बाँध 15 जून 2016 से बाँध पर पानी का भराव शुरू हो चुका है। इस बाँध पर 8 गेट लगे हुए है। 41 मीटर ऊँचा यह बाँध 2017 में दायी तट मुख्य नहर ओर बायी तट मुख्य नहरो के माध्यम से खेतो तक पानी पहुचेगा। पेंच डायवर्सन प्रोजेक्ट Pench Diversion Project के नाम से इसे जाना जाता है।

तोतलाडोह बाँध: यह बाँध महाराष्ट्र राज्य के नागपुर ज़िले में स्थित है। इस बाँध से नागपुर में 70% पानी पीने के लिए सप्लाई किया जाता है। यह बाँध नागपुर की जीवरेखा है। इस बाँध से आस पास का क्षेत्र पूर्ण रूप से सिंचित है। थर्मल पावर प्लांट के माध्यम से यह बिजली बनती है। मध्य।
