Salbardi is a village in Multai tahsil in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh. Its ancient name was Shailapura (शैलपुर) mentioned in Belora Plates (Sets A and B) of 11th year of Pravarasena II.^[1]Salbardi is an ancient place containing some old caves and hot springs.

Half of the village Salbardi is in Madhya Pradesh and half in Maharashtra.

Shail (शैल) (Jat clan) → Salbardi (सालबर्ड़ी) identified with Shailapura (शैलपुर) mentioned in Belora Plates (Sets A and B) of 11th year of Pravarasena II.^[2] Salbardi is a village in Multai tahsil in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh. Half of the village Salbardi is in Madhya Pradesh and half in Maharashtra.

History

Belora Plates (Sets A and B) of 11th year of Pravarasena II

Belora Plates (Sets A and B) of 11th year of Pravarasena II^[3]were issued by Pravarasena II of the Vakataka dynasty. The former record the grant of the village Mahalla-Lata in the Asi bhukti, which was situated in the mārga (subdivision) of Shailapura (शैलपुर), while the latter register the donation of two villages, viz.., Dīrghadraha (दीर्घद्रह) in the Pākkana (पाकण) rāshtra and Mahallama-Laṭa (महल्लम लाट). Of these latter villages, the second is plainly identical with the village Mahalla-Lata of Set A as it is specified exactly like it. The grant recorded in Set B is, therefore, later than that of Set A. (p.17)

Mahalla-Lata (महल्ल लाट) or Mahallama-Lata (महल्लम लाट) which seems to mean the larger Lata may be represented by Ladki (लाड़की) or Ghat Ladki (घाट लाड़की) in the Morshi taluka of the Amaravati District, about 18 miles north by west of Belora¹ Mahalla-Lata lay in the mārga of Shailapura (शैलपुर) which may be identical with Salbardi (सालबर्ड़ी)² situated in the midst of hills about 15 miles east of Ladki.

Asi (असि), the chief town of the bhukti (subdivision) in which Mahalla-Lata was situated, may be identical with Ashti which lies only 10 miles south of Belora.

Dirghadraha (दीर्घद्रह) is probably Dighi (दीघी) on the left bank of the Wardha, about 30 miles south of Ashti. The name of Pravareshvara-shaḍvimsativāṭa which is mentioned in both the grants as the home of the donee seems to indicate that it was the chief village in a group of twenty-six villages. Perhaps it received this name from a shrine of Shiva called Pravareshvara installed by Pravarasena I and named after himself³. This place as well as Pakkana (पाकण), the headquarters of the rāshtra (division) in which Dirghadraha, one of the donated villages, was situated, cannot be traced now.(p.18)

Tourism

The village Salbardi is nestled in the Satpura Hills, with a population of 1,000. Known for its agricultural activities, the village attracts around 15,000 tourists annually. It boasts rich natural and cultural resources, including the Madu River, Sita ki Nahani, and various temples. The village hosts numerous fairs showcasing tribal culture and traditions. Local businesses, mainly run by women and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), support the economy through shops, eateries, and produce like oranges and Mahua. Committed to environmental sustainability, The Village promotes eco-friendly tourism and community engagement.^[4]

सालबर्डी शिव गुफा

सालबर्डी - सालबर्डी में भगवान शिव की गुफा है। यहां प्रतिवर्ष शिवरात्रि पर विशाल मेला लगता है एक सप्ताह तक चलने वाले इस मेले में प्रतिदिन लाखों की संख्या में श्रद्धालु आते है। यह स्थल बैतूल जिले के विकासखंड प्रभातपटटन की ग्राम पंचायत सालवर्डी के अंतर्गत सिथत है। सालवर्डी बैतल की तहसील मुलताई और महाराष्ट्र के अमरावती जिले की मोरसी के पास पहाड़ी है, जिस पर एक गुफा में भगवान शिव की मूर्ति प्रतिषिठत है। आमतौर पर यह विश्वास किया जाता है कि इस गुफा के नीचे से पचमढ़ी स्थित महादेव पहाड़ी तक पहुंचने के लिये एक रास्ता जाता है। बैतूल जिले की जनपद पंचायत प्रभातपटटन के अंतर्गत ग्राम सालबर्डी अपनी सुरम्य वादियों एवं भगवान शिव की प्राचीन गुफा एवं उसमें स्थित प्राचीनतम शिवलिंग हेतु विख्यात है। इस शिवलिंग की विशेषता है कि यहां प्रकृति स्वयं भगवान शिव का अभिषेक अनवरत रूप से करती है। शिवलिंग के ठीक ऊपर सिथत पहाड़ी से सतत जलधारा प्रवाहित होती रहती है। यह किंवदन्ती है कि पौराणिककाल से स्थित यह शिवलिंग स्वत: प्रस्फुटित हुआ है। यह स्थान मध्यप्रदेश एवं महाराष्ट्र प्रान्त के लाखों श्रृद्धालुओं की श्रृद्धा का केन्द्र है। प्रतिवर्ष शिवरात्रि पर यहां विशाल मेला लगता है जिसमें उमड़ने वाला जनसैलाब अपने आप में कौतुहल का विषय है। प्रतिवर्ष आयोजित सात दिवदीय मेले में प्रतिदिन लगभग 75 हजार से एक लाख श्रृद्धालु एकत्रित होते है। मेले की प्रमुख विशेषता, जो अन्यत्र कहीं देखने नहीं मिलती है, वह है लोगो की श्रृद्धा। इसका अनुपम उदाहरण है कि दुर्गम् पथ को पार करते हुये भी न केवल पुरूष बल्कि महिलाएं व छोटे छोटे बच्चे भी तमाम दिन और रात शिवदर्शन के लिये आते है। शिवगुफा ग्राम से लगभग तीन किमी ऊपर पहाडी पर सिथत है इतने विशाल जन समुदाय का नियंत्रित हो पाना भी अपने आप में किसी चमत्कार से कम नहीं। शिवगुफा पहुंच मार्ग के दोनों ओर प्रकृति ने मुक्तहस्त से अपनी सौन्दर्य छटा बिखेरी है। सर्वप्रथम सीतानहानी नामक स्थान है जो कभी अपनी गरम पानी के कुण्ड के लिये विख्यात था, मुप्तगंगा में भी लगातार जलप्रवाह वर्ष पर्यन्त देखा जा सकता है। यात्री जब तीन किमी लम्बी चढ़ाई को पार कर शिवगुफा में प्रवेश करता है तो उसे अलौकिक शांति का अनुभव होता है और यात्रा की समस्त थकान कुछ ही पलों के भीतर दूर हो जाती है। शिवगुफा के अंदर भी 3-4 अन्य गुफा हैं जिनके संबंध में कहा जाता है कि इन गुफाओं से होकर मार्ग सुदुर बड़ा महादेव अर्थात पचमढ़ी पहुंचता है। सालबर्डी के विषय में यह भी कहा जाता है कि जब भगवान शिव का पीछा भस्मासुर नामक राक्षस कर रहा था तब शिव ने कुछ देर के लिये इस गुफा में शरण ली थी। पहाड़ी चटटानों पर स्थित पांंडव की गुफा भी विख्यात है, जहां पर कभी अज्ञातवास के समय पांडवों ने अपना बसेरा किया था। अन्य विशेषताओं के साथ ग्राम सालबर्डी की एक विशेषता यह भी है कि यह ग्राम आधा मध्यप्रदेश व आधा महाराष्ट्र में है। इस प्रकार यह ग्राम दो पृथक संस्कृतियों के अदभुत संगम का भी प्रतीक है। वर्तमान में जनपद पंचायत प्रभातपटटन समस्त व्यवस्थाएं देख रही है तथा इस स्थल को पर्यटन स्थल घाोषित करने हेतु प्रयास किये जा रहे है।^[5]
