Sur River

Sur River (सुर नदी) is a river of Nagpur district in Maharashtra, India. It is a key tributary of the Wainganga. The river flows south in a winding course through the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. The Sur river flows through Ramtek and Mauda Taluka of Nagpur district and Mohadi and Bhandara Taluka of Bhandara district.

- Sura (Jat clan) = Sur River. Sur River is a river of Nagpur district in Maharashtra, India. Ankollika (अङ्कोल्लिक) (L.17), mentioned in Nagardhan Plates Of Svamiraja : (Kalachuri) Year 322 (=573 AD), which was situated on the bank of the Shulanadi, has been identified by Vasudev Vishnu Mirashi with modern Aroli, on the right bank of the Sur River, about 8 miles south by east of Nagardhan.[3] Our view is that this village may be Akoli in Kuhi tehsil in Nagpur district of Maharashtra.

Ankollika (अङ्कोल्लिक) (L.17), mentioned in Nagardhan Plates Of Svamiraja : (Kalachuri) Year 322 (=573 AD), which was situated on the bank of the Shulanadi, has been identified by Vasudev Vishnu Mirashi with modern Aroli, on the right bank of the Sur River, about 8 miles south by east of Nagardhan. The Sulanadi (सूलनदी) (L.15), on the bank of which it lay, is probably identical with the river Sur which flows only about 4 miles east of Nagardhan. This river is called Sura-nadi in L.39 of the Ramtek stone inscription of Ramachandra, Ep Ind Vol XXV, p 10. The name of the river seems to have changed from Sula-nadi to Sura-nadi in the course of the seven centuries that separate these two records[4] Our view is that this village may be Akoli in Kuhi tehsil in Nagpur district of Maharashtra.
Course
The start stream of Sur originate at forest Hills near Maharapeth (R) in Ramtek Taluka of Nagpur district.[5] The Sur river flows through Ramtek and Mauda Taluka of Nagpur district and Mohadi and Bhandara Taluka of Bhandara district[6] respectively. This river irrigates lands where rice is cultivation as main crop which is part of Bhandara cluster.
