Tholkabad (थोल्काबाद) is a small Village in Manoharpur tahsil in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand State, India. Locally pronounced as Thokabad & Thaikobad. It is situated deep within the Saranda Sal Forest Range, within the conflict zone between the Naxalite movement and the security forces.[1]Author visited the place on 18.1.1981.

Tholkobad is a small Village/hamlet in Manoharpur Block in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand State, India. It comes under Tholkobad Panchayath. It is located 76 KM towards west from District head quarters Chaibasa. 127 KM from State capital Ranchi. Tholkobad is surrounded by Anandpur Block towards North , Bisra Block towards west , Goelkera Block towards East , Gudri Block towards North . Barbil , Raurkela , Biramitrapur , Joda are the near by Cities to Tholkobad. [2]

History

Tholkobad has the proud status of being the heart land of Saranda. The beautiful forest rest house which was built a century ago decors this beautiful forest. Right from mammals to birds and reptiles, Saranda is a wild goldcard. Its majestic elephants are known all over the world. The magical sunrise and sun set of Kiriburu in the hills of Saranda is a mouth opening sight. Moonlit nights at Tholkobad, that too during winter is just fascinating. The surrounding becomes magnetic with no way out other than ATTRACTION.[4]

थोल्काबाद

थोल्काबाद झारखंड प्रदेश के पश्चिम सिंहभूम जिले में मनोहरपुर तहसील में स्थित एक छोटा सा गांव है। स्थानीय लोग इसे थोकाबाद या थैकोबाद भी बोलते हैं। यह सारंडा साल फॉरेस्ट रेंज में स्थित है। थोल्काबाद का वन विश्राम गृह बहुत सुंदर बना है। इसका निर्माण वर्ष 1905 में हुआ था। यहाँ से रात को चाँदनी रात में निहारना बड़ा मनमोहक होता है। वर्तमान में यह क्षेत्र नक्सली गतिविधियां से प्रभावित है। यह झारखंड की राजधानी रांची से 127 किलोमीटर दूर स्थित है। जिला मुख्यालय चाईबासा से 76 किलोमीटर पश्चिम में स्थित है।[5]

Toybo Fall

Toybo Fall (तोयबो जल-प्रपात) is situated about 20 km from Tholkabad in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand. It cascades down from a height of 100 feet. The valley of this fall serves as a playground for the wild elephants.[6][7]

Toybo Fall - The Koel and Karo rivers merge near Manoharpur. They further proceed to take a spectacular jump down – 100 feet at a place 20 Km away from Tholkobad. The valley around the fall is a football field for the wild elephants who are regular visitors. [8]

टॉयबो झरना

Toybo Fall Saranda Forest

टॉयबो जल-प्रपात (Toybo Fall): झारखंड प्रदेश के पश्चिम सिंहभूम जिले में मनोहरपुर तहसील में थोल्काबाद से 20 किमी दूर स्थित है। यहाँ 100 फीट की ऊँचाई से पानी गिरता है तथा इसकी घाटी में जंगली हाथी क्रीडा करते हैं। टॉयबो झरना एशिया प्रसिद्ध सारंडा जंगल के सघनतम इलाके टॉयबो में टॉयबो झरना है। पश्चिम सिंहभूम में मनोहरपुर के पास कारो नदी और कोयल नदी का संगम है। इससे नीचे थोल्काबाद से 20 किमी दूरी पर 100 फीट की ऊँचाई से टॉयबो झरना गिरता है। [9]

आदिवासी भाषा में 'टोय' मतलब 'कटा हुआ' और 'बो' का मतलब 'सिर' होता है। टॉयबो यानि कटा हुआ सिर। यह थोलकोबाद से 20 किमी की दूरी पर अवस्थित है। झरने के जमे हुए पानी में काफी मछलियां हैं। पर एक मान्यता के तहत लोग यहां मछलियां नहीं पकड़ते हैं। किंवदन्ती है कि काफी पहले यहां एक पिता-पुत्र मछलियां पकड़ने गए। पिता मछली के लिए पानी में उतरा। पर वह डूब गया और कुछ देर में सिर्फ उसका कटा हुआ सिर ही बाहर निकला। बाकी शरीर बाहर नहीं आया। यह खबर आसपास में जंगल की आग की तरह फैल गई। और भय कहें या मान्यता उसके बाद से यहां कोई मछली पकड़ने नहीं आता है। और उसी कटे हुए सिर के चलते ही इसका नामकरण टॉयबो झरना हो गया। हालांकि जंगल के आकार के छोटे होने का असर झरना में भी देखा जा सकता है। पहले झरने के चट्टानों से होकर कई जगहों से पानी गिरता था। पर अब सिर्फ एक या दो जगहों से पानी गिर रहा है। पर्यावरण विभाग को इस ओर ध्यान देने की जरूरत है। वरना दशकों बाद यहाँ सिर्फ चट्टान और पत्थर ही शेष रह जाएंगे।[10]

Ligirda Swamp

Ligirda Swamp is a narrow wet land situated 4 km from Tholkobad in East Singhbhum District of Jharkhand. The swamp is spread over an area of 8 acres and is formed due to the constant flow of Ligirda Lor.[11][12]

Loyalls View is a site to have a look at deep woods of Saranda Forest located 10 km from Tholkabad Forest Rest House. [13]
