History
सेतव्य = सेतव्या
सेतव्या (AS, p.985): बौद्ध काल का एक व्यापारिक नगर जो श्रावस्ती से राजगृह (मगध) जाने वाले वणिक्पथ पर स्थित था (देखें कृ. द. वाजपेई, युग-युग में उत्तर प्रदेश, पृ.6). इस नगर सेतव्या के रूप में उल्लेख बौद्ध ग्रंथ पायासिसुत्तन्त में है जिससे इसकी प्राचीनता का प्रमाण मिलता है. यह नगर उत्तर प्रदेश के पूर्वी या बिहार के पश्चिमी भाग में स्थित था. डॉक्टर मोतीचंद (दे.सार्थवाह) का विचार है कि यह स्थान शायद जिला गोंडा (उत्तर प्रदेश) में स्थित बालापुर के खंडहरों के स्थान पर बसा हुआ था. जैन ग्रंथ राजप्रश्नीय सूत्र में भी इस नगरी का उल्लेख है.[2]
