राजधानी (AS, p.781): राजधानी तथा उपधौली (AS, p.98) नामक ग्रामों में जो पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश में कुसुम्ही रेल स्टेशन से 11 मील दक्षिण में हैं विशाल प्राचीन बौद्धकालीन खंडहर पाए गए हैं। चीनी यात्री युवानच्वांग जो इस स्थान पर 640 ई. में आया था, लिखता है कि यहाँ पर मौर्य सम्राट अशोक ने बुद्ध की मृत्यु के पश्चात उनके शरीर की भस्म पर एक स्तूप बनवाया था. शायद इसी स्तूप के खंडहर यहाँ 30 फुट ऊंचे ईंटों के टीले के रूप में खड़े हैं.
