Ram Niwas Mirdha

Ram Niwas Mirdha (राम निवास मिर्धा) (b.24 August 1924-d. 29 January 2010) was a well known politician and social worker from Marwar region of Rajasthan state in India. He was a member of Indian National Congress Party. He was the speaker of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. Ram Niwas Mirdha was cabinet minister in Government of India in 1970s and has held many party positions. Parasram Maderna was his brother-in-law.

His family

He was born at village Kuchera in Nagaur district of Rajasthan on 24 August 1924 in Hindu Jat family of Rad gotra. His father's Name is late Shri Baldev Ram Mirdha. His Spouse's name is Smt. Indira Mirdha. He has got two sons and one daughter. 1. Rajendra Mirdha; 2. Harendra Mirdha, born September 1949, married Ratan Mirdha daughter of Parasram Maderna. Joined politics, he has been Member Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Minister for Public Works Department in Government of Rajasthan (1998-2004). He had one daughter and one son Raghuvendra Mirdha.

Educational Qualifications

He was M.A., LL.B. Educated at Allahabad University, Allahabad, Lucknow University, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and Graduate Institute of International Studies, Geneva (Switzerland). He was a Professional Agriculturist.

Social works

He was President of Surajmal Memorial Education Society at Delhi. The Research and Publications wing of this Institute remained engaged in intensive study of the primary sources on the history of Jats and to update the prominent works on Jat History organised a number of national level seminars under the stewardship of Ramniwas Mirdha.

Cultural activities

He had been active in matters of cultural from very beginning.

He was Chairman Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi for two terms (1976-1980) and (1990-1995),
National Institute of Sports, Delhi Urban Arts Commission, Deputy Chairman Special Organizing Committee for IX Asian Games, and President, Youth hostel Association of India,
He also worked as Co-Chairman of the Indo-US Subcommission on Culture and Education and has been a member of the executive Board of UNESCO and founder President of Indian Heritage Society, an active organization concerned with cultural and environment issues.
He was also a trustee of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA).

मौजूदा दौर में जबकि राजनीति भ्रष्टाचार, स्वार्थपरता व पदलोलुपता के कारण बदनाम हो चली है, ऐसे में सहसा पूर्व केन्द्रीय मंत्री स्वर्गीय रामनिवास मिर्धा का नाम जेहन उभर आता है, जिनका पूरा जीवन सिद्धांतवादी, ईमानदारी और सकारात्मक राजनीति की पाठशाला सा रहा है, जो कि आज भी नई पीढ़ी को राजनीति के जरिए जनसेवा का पाठ पढ़ाता है । 29 जनवरी 2010 को इस दुनिया को अलविदा कह गए पूर्व केद्रीय मंत्री रामनिवास मिर्धा प्रदेश की राजनीति के साथ ही राष्ट्रीय राजनीति के भी पुरोधा रहे हैं ।

स्वर्गीय रामनिवास मिर्धा विलक्षण प्रतिभा व व्यक्तित्व के धनी थे । उनकी गिनती सिद्धांतवादी राजनीतिज्ञों, चिंतकों, दार्शनिकों के रूप में होती है । एक किसान परिवार में जन्म लेने के बाद ईमानदारी व कर्मठता के दम पर उन्होंने लेकर संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ तक अपने बौद्धिक, राजनीतिक व प्रशासनिक कौशल का लोहा मनवाया । उनकी सबसे बड़ी उपलब्धि ये मानी जाती है कि अनेकानेक उच्च पदों पर रहते हुए भी वे सौम्य व शांत स्वभाव के बने रहे और उनका पूरा जीवन निष्कलंक रहा ।

उनका जन्म मूल रूप से नागौर जिले के कुचेरा गांव निवासी जाने-माने किसान नेता बलदेव राम मिर्धा के घर 24 अगस्त, 1924 को बाड़मेर जिले के जसोल गांव में हुआ । जब बलदेव राम जी वहाँ पुलिस अधिकारी थे ।

स्व. मिर्धा ने इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय, लखनऊ विश्वविद्यालय और जिनेवा-स्विट्जरलैंड के ग्रेजुएट इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ इंटरनेशनल स्टडीज में एम.ए. व एल.एल.बी. की उच्च शिक्षा हासिल की । उन्होंने अपना कैरियर राजस्थान प्रशासनिक सेवा के अधिकारी के रूप में शुरू किया, मगर जल्द ही इस्तीफा दे कर सक्रिय राजनीति में आ गए ।

वे सन 1953 से 1967 तक राजस्थान विधानसभा के सदस्य रहे और इस दरम्यान 1954 से 1057 तक कृषि, सिंचाई व यातायात विभाग के मंत्री और 1957 से 1967 तक विधानसभा के अध्यक्ष का महत्वपूर्ण दायित्व निर्वहन किया । इसके बाद 1967 में वे राज्यसभा के लिए निर्वाचित हुए और 1970 से 1980 के दौरान केन्द्र सरकार में मंत्री रहे और विदेश, संचार, कपड़ा, सिंचाई, स्वास्थ्य व परिवार कल्याण सहित अनेक विभागों के मंत्रालयों का कामकाज देखा । वे 1977 से 1980 तक राज्यसभा के उपसभापति भी रहे । वे 1991 से 1996 तक बाड़मेर से लोकसभा सदस्य भी रहे । वे सिक्यूरिटी व बैंकिंग ट्रांजेक्शन में अनियमितता के लिए गठित संयुक्त संसदीय समिति के अध्यक्ष भी रहे ।

उन्होंने भारत-अमेरिकी संस्कृति और शिक्षा पर उप आयोग के सह अध्यक्ष के रूप में काम किया और 1993 से 1997 तक यूनेस्को के एक्जीक्यूटिव बोर्ड के सदस्य भी रहे । वे इंडियन हैरिटेज सोसायटी के संस्थापक अध्यक्ष, इंडियन फेडरेशन ऑफ यूएन एसोसिएशन के अध्यक्ष, इंदिरा गांधी राष्ट्रीय कला केन्द्र के ट्रस्टी और संगीत नाटक अकादमी व ललित कला अकादमी के अध्यक्ष भी रहे । उन्होंने अनेक स्थानों पर नृत्य केन्द्रों की स्थापना करवाई । पैंतीस वर्ष से कम आयु के कलाकारों को युवा पुरस्कार देने की योजना उन्हीं के दिमाग की उपज थी । उन्हीं के कार्यकाल में संगीत नाटक अकादमी की झांकी को गणतंत्र दिवस समारोह में प्रथम पुरस्कार हासिल हुआ ।

स्वर्गीय मिर्धा की धर्मपत्नी का नाम इंदिरा मिर्धा था । उनके घर-आंगन में तीन पुत्र व एक पुत्री ने जन्म लिया । उनके एक पुत्र हरेन्द्र मिर्धा वर्तमान में राजस्थान के प्रमुख कांग्रेस नेताओं में शुमार हैं, जिनका विवाह राजस्थान विधानसभा के पूर्व अध्यक्ष रहे परसराम मदेरणा की पुत्री रतन मिर्धा के साथ हुआ । उन्होंने राजनीति में सक्रिय भूमिका निभाई और 1998 से 2004 तक काबीना मंत्री के रूप में सार्वजनिक निर्माण विभाग का काम देखा । हरेंद्र मिर्धा कांग्रेस के राष्ट्रीय सचिव भी रह चुके हैं । उनके एक पुत्र व एक पुत्री हैं । पुत्र राघवेन्द्र मिर्धा की गिनती उभरते हुए कांग्रेस नेताओं में होती है । नागौर जिले का युर्वा वर्ग उनमें अपना भविष्य तलाशता है ।^[1]
