Boparae (बोपाराय) [1]Boparay (बोपाराय)[2] Boparai (बोपाराय) [3] Bupa Rai (बुपाराय) Bhoparai (भोपाराय)[4] is a gotra of Jats in Punjab in India and Pakistan. Bopahrae (बोपहराए) Jat clan is found in Amritsar. [5] Boperai (बोपेराय) Hindu Jat clan is found in Montgomery.

History and Origin

Boparais are descendants of one of the five brothers, along with Deol, Sidhu, and Gill who migrated in the 12th century from central India Madhya Pradesh and settled in the area of the 5 rivers. There was a Hindu Jatt king in Madhya Pardesh in 12th Century Raja Jagdeo who came to Punjab after conquering the kingdoms on the way from M.P. to Punjab and settled his kingdom at Jarg. Among Raja Jagdeo's sons there was a son named 'Bopa Rai' 'Bopa' and 'Rai' will be read separately and Bopa Rai is the clan's ancestor. The village Ghudani was almost 100% wiped out in 16th century due to land dispute. In the attack, only one young Boparai survived and he went into exile for some years only to return to claim what was originally his belongings. That he did get, and Kudani Boparais are all his descendents.


Boparai Jatts are found in Pakistani Punjab and Indian Punjab.

Boparai clan have no jathera at all.[6]

Boparai - The Muslim branch of Boparai Jatts are living in Pakistani Punjab and Indian Punjab. In Pakistani Punjab the Boparai jatts are located in Faisalabad district and Toba Tek Singh district. There are some Boparai Jatt families who have moved to Lahore in the last few years and in the Sheikhupura district.
