Jambu (जम्बू) is a place name mentioned by Panini. Jambu River is mentioned in Puranas and Mahabharata. Jambuka warriors joined the ceremony of Kartikeya in Mahabharata.

History
Tej Ram Sharma[3]mentions about Jambu River....Sumeru is identified with Rudra Himalaya in Garhwal, where the river Ganga has its source, it is near Badarikasrama. [4] According to the Matsya Purana [5] the Sumeru Parvata is bounded on the north by Uttara-Kuru, on the South by Bharatavarsa, on the west by Ketumala and on the east by Bhadrasvavarsa. [6] It is also mentioned in the Padmapurana. [7] and the Kalikapurana. [8] According to the Kalikapurana Siva saw the summit of it. We also learn from this text that the Jambu river flows from this mountain.
जांबू नदी
जांबू नदी (AS, p.362) जंबूद्वीप में प्रवाहित होने वाली नदी है, जो विष्णु पुराण के अनुसार जंबूवृक्ष के फलों के रस से बनी है- 'रसेन तेषां प्रख्याता तत्र जांबूनदीति वै’' विष्णु पुराण 2, 2, 20. संभवत: इस नदी की स्थिति हिमालयोत्तर प्रदेश या मध्य एशिया में थी, क्योंकि पौराणिक भूगोल में जंबू वृक्ष को जंबूद्वीप के मध्य माना गया है।[9] (दे. जम्बुद्वीप)
In Mahabharata
Bhisma Parva, Mahabharata/Book VI Chapter 10 describes geography and provinces of Bharatavarsha. Jambunadi (जम्बुनदी) is mentioned in verse (VI.10.29) [10]
Shalya Parva, Mahabharata/Book IX Chapter 44 mentions the ceremony for investing Kartikeya with the status of generalissimo, the diverse gods, various clans who joined it. Jambuka (जम्बुक) warriors are listed twice in verse (IX.44.69)[11] and (IX.44.71)[12]
