Karia (करिया) or Kariya[1] is a gotra of Jats. [2][3]

Origin

They were descendants of Kala Naga. [4]

Jat Gotras Namesake

Caria was a region of western Anatolia. Its inhabitants were called Carians who were emigrants from Crete to Central Asia.[5]

History

The village of Siranwali in Pasrur (Sialkot) was founded by Sindhu-Jat ancestor Hassan at place where he overcame Karayah tribe. Hassan also founded a village Hassanwala (Gujranwala) in 1500 AD.[6]

Siranwali traces its history with the reign of Ranjit Singh of Lahore. While the area was Settled by the Sandhu Jat migrants who believed to come here from northeastern Ottoman Empire (modern Georgia, Chechenya, Adjara, Abkhazia) as per Sir Lepel Griffin.

The Sandhu family of Siranwali rose to the position of power under the rule of Ranjit Singh of Lahore. He awarded this Jagir to Sardar Lal Singh Sandhu whose daughter was married with Ranjit Singh's elder son Kharak Singh in 1840.[7]

जाट इतिहास:ठाकुर देशराज[8]के अनुसार हुसैन नाम के एक सिन्धू जाट थे, जिन्होंने लगभग सन् 1500 के गुजरानवाला जिले में हसनवाला गांव की नींव डाली थी। सिरानवाली नामक गांव स्यालकोट जिले की पसरूर नामक तहसील में है। कहा जाता है कि इस गांव को भी इन्होंने बसाया था, जहां पर इन्होंने शक्तिशाली करिया वंश को परास्त किया था और वध किए हुए व्यक्तियों के सिर काटकर उनका एक ढेर इकट्ठा कर दिया और उन पर बैठकर स्नान किया। इसी कारण से इस गांव का नाम सिरानवाली (सिरों की जगह) रखा गया। किसी प्रकार सिरानवाली गांव इस वंश के हाथों से निकल गया और इस वंश का दरगा नामक व्यक्ति जो सिक्ख हो गया था, गरीबी के कारण स्यालकोट जिले को छोड़कर जिला गुरदासपुर में चला आया, जहां पर वह जयमलसिंह फतेहगढ़िया की फौज में घुड़सवारों में भर्ती हो गया। इसका पुत्र लालसिंह इसका उत्तराधिकारी हुआ, जो अपनी योग्यता के कारण 100 घुड़सवारों का मालिक हो गया।
