Let Pora

Let Pora (लेथपोरा) is a town in Pampore tahsil of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir. Its ancient name was Lalitapura (ललितपुर). Vijayendra Kumar Mathur[1] writes it as Latpor (लाटपोर).

Location
Let Pora is 21 kilometres from summer capital Srinagar to the south. Lethapora is located on the banks of Jhelum River. It lies at the foothills of south-western corner of Zabarwan mountain range locally known as Vastoorwun. The Srinagar Jammu National Highway passes through the village.[2][3]
History
It has a long history as it was named after a king Lalitaditya Muktapida (r. 724 CE–760 CE), who was a powerful ruler of the Karkota dynasty of Kashmir. It was first named as Lalitpur later changed to Lethapora.
Rajatarangini[4] mentions about Lalitapura (ललितपुर) - When Lalitaditya was out in conquest, his viceroy built a town after the king's name. In this town of Lalitapura, there was an image of the sun, to which he bestowed the city of Kanyakubja with the adjoining lands and villages.[5]

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[7] ने लेख किया है ...2. ललितपुर (AS, p.813) = लाटपौर (कश्मीर). इस प्राचीन नगर की संस्था कश्मीर के प्रतापी नरेश ललितादित्य मुक्तापीड़ (r. 724 CE–760 CE) ने सातवीं सदी में की थी. ललितादित्य की विजय यात्राओं तथा उसके शासनकाल का वर्णन कल्हण ने राजतरंगिणी में किया है.[8]
लेथपोरा
लेथपोरा भारत के जम्मू और कश्मीर राज्य के पुलवामा ज़िले में स्थित एक बस्ती है। लेथपोरा का मूल नाम ललितपुर (Lalitpur) था। लेथपोरा श्रीनगर से 21 किमी दक्षिण में झेलम नदी के किनारे बसा हुआ है। यह राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग-44 (पुराना नाम राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग-1ए) पर स्थित है। कश्मीर के सूखे मेवे जैसे अखरोट और बादाम खरीदने के लिए लेथपोरा एक मुख्य बाजार है। यहाँ से विश्व प्रसिद्ध केशर भी खरीद सकते हैं।

Tourism
It is one of the main market for tourists and locals for Kashmiri dry fruits like walnuts, almonds etc. You can get worlds finest saffron from here which is available easily in the market. It mainly has three main markets that is Upper Market (Her Bazar), Main Market and Down Market (Bon Bazar). Upper market is like the corporate area of the village mainly has mixture of shops like saffron and other dry fruit shops, restaurants, hotels, tea stalls, banks, school, gym, showrooms etc. In Main Market you will find basic shops selling fruits, vegetables, kirana and other basics and in the Down Market it mostly has saffron shops along with other shops, and restaurants
Jat History
Rajendra Nain (d.31.12.2017) was from Gorisar village in Ratangarh tehsil of Churu district in Rajasthan. He became martyr of militancy on 31.12.2017 in a terrorist attack at Lethpora CRPF camp in Awantipora of Pulwama district in J&K. He belonged to 130th battalion of the force and was part of its elite Quick Reaction Team (QRT).
