Pratap Singh Thakran

Ch. Pratap Singh Thakran (8.8.1930 - 12.8.2020), from Khor village in Pataudi tahsil of district Gurgaon in Haryana, was former MLA Gurgaon and Deputy Chairman State Planning Board.

Early life

He was born in Khor village (located in Pataudi Tehsil of Gurgaon district) on August 8, 1930. After completing his law degree in 1955 from The Law Institute in Jalandhar, he got married and relocated to Gurgaon in 1955.

Career in politics

Ch. Pratap Singh Thakran Ex-M L A, Haryana Vidhan Sabha; Village - Nanu Khod, Pataudi, Haryana. He was an MLA in 1967 on the Jan Sangh ticket and again in 1977 as a nominee of the Janata Party. He was also Deputy Chairman, Planning Board, Haryana.

Professionally Thakran was a political leader and an attorney for over the past 70+ years. He worked pro bono and help many in his community with solving problem. Thakran sahab's impact on the community was profound. He created a culture in and around him that was just and always upheld the letter of the law. He was a man of high morals, values and discipline. As a young man he participated in the freedom struggle for India.

He entered politics in the mid 60s and was the first MLA from Gurgaon post the creation of Haryana as a state in the year 1966. Later he was elected from Gurgaon in 1977. He was the Dept Chairman State Planning Board for Haryana.

He was a man who never held back whether it was expressing his fierce love for his country, state, community, society, family and friends, traveling, welcoming a challenge, doing yoga, meditation, or taking morning walks. He had a passion for reading history, legal journals and news / current affairs. He spoke five languages fluently and travelled extensively both nationwide and internationally.

Thakran Saahab was a generous, caring and intensely loyal son, brother, husband, father and friend. He was well respected and known by his political adversary, colleagues, friend and family for his unmatched energy, passion, commitment, and spirit. Those who knew Thakran saahab respected and appreciated his honest, strong and direct opinions, wit, adventurous and positive spirit, and, most of all, his love for life! Thakran saahab touched the hearts of so many of us and we will always carry him with us.

Death

He was preceded in death by his parents Smt. Dhakha Devi Thakran née Tomar (of Bilkha) and Ch. Malhook Singh Thakran; his siblings, Ch. Dharam Singh Thakran, Ch. Jagmal Singh Thakran, Ch. Krishan Singh Thakran , Smt. Shakuntala Devi Nagill née Thakran (married in Sanjarvas) and Smt. Rajeshwari Devi Ehlawat née Thakran (married in Dhandalan); his wives, Smt. Vidya Devi Thakran née Pawar (of Kanhali; mother of his eldest son Yashvir Thakran) and Smt. Savitri Devi Thakran née Chhikara (of Jaunti; mother of his children Renu Daljit Singh née Thakran, Pradeep (Gullu) Thakran, Sangeeta Sangwan Thakran and Sabina Sharma Thakran). His sons Yashvir Thakran and Pradeep (Gullu) Thakran and grandson Uday Sangwan.

Surviving in addition to his brother Ch. Sukhbir Singh Thakran are his daughter Renu Daljit Singh and husband Daljit Singh Mohil (Dabra) and their children Deepshikha Mammen and husband Adil Mammen, Rakshat Singh Mohil and Amy Leigh Kile and grandchildren, Adil Mammen, Fatih Mammen and Anorah Jahnaan Kile-Mohil; daughter Sangeeta Sangwan Thakran and her son Surya Sangwan; daughter Sabina Sharma Thakran and her daughters Ahvanya Sharma and Sahaya Kapur née Sharma and husban Keshav Kapur; daughter-in-law Mrs Yashvir Sunil Thakran née Mehla (of Bawal) and their children Aashima Thakran, Yudhister Thakran, Nakul Thakran and wife Madhulika Thakran and their daughter Tahira Thakran; daughter-in-law Mrs Pradip (Gullu) Monita Thakran née Godara and their children Diya Hoogendoorn née Thakran and Jagat Thakran.

This departure marks the passing of an era full of grace, charm, nostalgia, intellectual conversations, stores of a world that preceded all of us. He remained happy, stoic and positive till the end irrespective of any adversity. You will be missed by all.

His cremation service was held at 4.00 p.m., 12th, August 2020, at Jharsa Cremation Grounds, Gurgaon Haryana.
