According to Vedas, Pururavas is a mythological entity associated with the Surya (the sun) and Usha (the dawn), and is believed to resided in the middle region of the cosmos. The Rig Veda states that he was a son of Ila, and was a pious king. However, the Mahabharata states that Ila was both his mother and his father. [5]
Urvashi became the wife of king Pururavas, an ancient chief of the lunar race. The myth is alluded to in RV 10.95, ShBr 11.5.1, and treated in Kalidasa's drama Vikramorvashi. [6]
