History

Sigerdis is a name given by the ancient Greeks to a part of the northwestern South Asia. It seems to correspond to the Sindhu, the delta of the Indus river, today's area of Sindh in southern Pakistan.

Referring to the conquests of the Indo-Greeks in the 2nd century BCE, Strabo writes that:

"The Greeks... took possession, not only of Patalena, but also, on the rest of the coast, of what is called the kingdom of Saraostus and Sigerdis. In short, Apollodorus says that Bactriana is the ornament of Ariana as a whole; and, more than that, they extended their empire even as far as the Seres and the Phryni." (Strabo 11.11.1)

In Mahabharata

Sagaradvipa (सागर द्वीप) in Mahabharata (II.28.44)

Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 28 mentions Sahadeva's march towards south: kings and tribes defeated. Sagaradvipa (सागर द्वीप) is mentioned in Mahabharata (II.28.44). [2].....And the master of battle (Sahadeva) then, having exacted jewels and wealth from king Rukmin, marched further to the south. And, endued with great energy and great strength, the hero then, reduced to subjection, Surparaka and Talakata, and the Dandakas also.

The Kuru warrior then vanquished and brought under his subjection numberless kings of the Mlechchha tribe living on the sea coast (Sagaradvipa), and the Nishadas and the cannibals and even the Karnapravarnas,....
