Course
Sukta River rises in the East Khandesh District (Jalgaon, Maharashtra) and enters the Burhanpur Tahsil at its north-western boundary. After traversing it for about 15 miles (24.1 Km.) it enters the Khandwa Tahsil near Kalana, and returns to the north. It is joined by the Abna near Kupasthal (Jaswadi), and thence flowing north-east falls into the Chhota Tawa near Selda. The name is probably a corruption of Sukh Tawa ‘The dry Bed’. The river is crossed by the railway near Behar, ten miles (16.1 Km.) south of Khandwa. Its length in the District is about 50 miles (80.5 Km.). At Sukta on the border of Khandwa and Burhanpur tahsils is a, spring known as Bhimkund, near the river’s bank.[1]

Sukta Project

Purpose: The project's reservoir provides water for irrigation (73.76 MCM) and domestic water supply (4.24 MCM).

The gross command area (GCA) is 19533 ha, and the culturable command area (CCA) is 16599 ha.
The total cost of the project was 12.6 Crores.
