Swami
Swami (स्वामी) is gotra of Jats in Rajasthan.[1]
Origin
They are primarily farmers but with pujari profession in Thakur (Krishna) ji temple. Swami caste came into existence in 17th century when many Jats and Rajputs in Rajasthan become Swami and started following Bhakti movement and become disciples of Dhanna Jat bhagat and Pipa ji Chauhan Bhagat from *Gagrongarh Jhalawar. Swami, Bairagi, Vaishnava, Ramawat are other names of this caste.
