Kanhaiya
Kanhaiya (कनहैया)[1] Kanhaia (कन्हैया)[2] Kanhia (कन्हिया) is gotra of Jats in Uttar Pradesh. [3]
Origin
They were inhabitants of village Kanha (कान्हा), so known as Kanhaiya. Kanha village is 23 kms from Lahore. These people consider themselves as descendants of Krishna.[4]
Jat Gotras Namesake
- Kanhaiya (Jat clan) = Kanhan River. Kanhan River rises on the slopes of the hills at the southern edge of the Satpura range to the north of Damua and west of Junnardeo towns in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, India. Kanhan River flows in the Southern direction through the western parts of Chhindwara Tehsil and mixes with the Wainganga River.
History
Kanhia (कन्हिया), or (Ghania) (घनिया), the fifth of the Sikh misls or confederacies which was recruited from Jats. It derived its name from Ghani, a village near Lahore. [5]
