Bhat (भट)/ Bhatt (भट्ट)[1] Bhat भात [2] [3]Bhatu (भातू)[4] is gotra of Jats in Uttar Pradesh [5] and Punjab.
Origin
This gotra started from their ancestral great warrior named Bhat. [6]

- Bhat (Jat clan) = Bhatas (भट) (L.3). Bhatas (भट) (L.3) is mentioned in Nagardhan Plates Of Svamiraja : (Kalachuri) Year 322 (=573 AD) as an officer.....Swamiraja's brother Nannarâja (नन्नराज) (L.2), who meditates on him, honours all his (officers) such as Rajasthaniyas (राजस्थानीय) (L.2), Uparikas (उपरिक) (L.3), Dandapashikas (दाण्डपाशिक) (L.3), Chatas (चाट) (L.3), Bhatas (भट) (L.3), Dutasampreshanikas (दूतसम्प्रेषणिक) (L.3) and Drangikas (द्राङ्गिक) (L.3) (p.616).[7]
- Bhat (भट) (Jat clan) → Bhatkuli (भाटकुली) = Bhojakata (भोजकट). Bhojakata (भोजकट) mentioned in Chammak Plates of 18th year of Pravarasena II, the ancient town founded by 'Rukmi, the brother-in-law of Krishna, is usually identified with Bhatkuli (भाटकुली), a village about 8 miles from Amaravati where there is still a temple of Rukmi. (p.23)[8]
