Dasarha (दाशार्ह) was a republic known to Panini and mentioned as a race in Mahabharata (V.7.36),(V.82.3). Dasharhi (दाशार्ही), princess of Dasarha, is mentioned in Mahabharata (I.90.35,38,41). Dasharhka (दाशार्हक) is mentioned in Mahabharata (II.26.5) as the country, Bhimasena subjugated in the East, of which king was Sudharman.

History

V. S. Agrawala[2] mentions Ayudhajivi Sanghas in the Ganapatha, which includes - Dāśārha. The Satvata and Dāśārha clans are stated in the Mahabharata to have formed part of the Andhaka-Vrishni Sangha.


V. S. Agrawala[3] mentions Sanghas known to Panini which includes - Dasharha (दशार्ह), under Parshvadi (पर्शवादि) (V.3.117).

दशार्ण

ठाकुर देशराज[4] ने लिखा है .... दशार्ण - दशार्ण और दशार्ह लोग मंदसौर और उज्जैन के आसपास रहते थे। असल में 10 कुलों ने मिलाकर जो जाति राष्ट्र कायम किया था उसकी राजधानी दशपुर अथवा मंदसौर थी। जाटों में आजकल यह लोग दसपुरिया और दशार्ह कहलाते हैं। मंदसौर का प्रसिद्ध राजा यशोधर्मन इन्हीं दस खानदानों में से बरिक गोत का जाट नरेश था। उसका वर्णन आगे के प्रश्नों में दिया जा रहा है।

In Mahabharata

Dasarha (दाशार्ह) was a republic known to Panini and mentioned as a race in Mahabharata (V.7.36),(V.82.3).

Udyoga Parva/Mahabharata Book V Chapter 7 mentions Dasharha in verse Mahabharata (V.7.36)...'Then with a glad heart, Kunti's son, accompanied by Krishna as well as by the flower of the Dasarha race, came back to Yudhishthira.' [5]


Udyoga Parva/Mahabharata Book V Chapter 82 tells that Krishna departed for Hastinapura on Yudhishthira's mission. .... Dashanha is mentioned in verse (V.82.3). "How did the illustrious slayer of Madhu, of Dasharha's race, proceed on his journey? And what omens were seen when that hero set out?" [6]


Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 26 tells us that Bhimasena subjugated the countries that lay to the East. Dasharhka (दाशार्हक) is mentioned in verse (II.26.5).... "There in the country of the Dasharhkas, the king called Sudharman with his bare arms fought a fierce battle with Bhimasena". [7]


Adi Parva, Mahabharata/Mahabharata Book I Chapter 90 gives the lineage of Hasti. princess Dasharhi is mentioned in verses (I.90.35,38,41): "And he begat upon her a son Suhotra who married Suvarna, the daughter of Ikshvaku. To her was born a son named Hasti who founded Hastinapura. And Hasti married Yasodhara, the princess Traigarti. And of her was born a son named Vikunthana who took for a wife Sudeva, the princessDasharhi."

भुमन्युः खलु दाशार्हीम उपयेमे जयां नाम, तस्याम अस्य जज्ञे सुहॊत्रः (Mahabharata:I.90.35)
सुहॊत्रः खल्व इक्ष्वाकुकन्याम उपयेमे सुवर्णां नाम, तस्याम अस्य जज्ञे हस्ती, य इदं हास्तिनपुरं मापयाम आस, एतद अस्य हास्तिनपुरत्वम (Mahabharata:I.90.36)
हस्ती खलु त्रैगर्तीम उपयेमे यशॊधरां नाम, तस्याम अस्य जज्ञे विकुण्ठनः (Mahabharata:I.90.37)
विकुण्ठनः खलु दाशार्हीम उपयेमे सुदेवां नाम, तस्याम अस्य जज्ञे ऽजमीढः (Mahabharata:I.90.38)

Kuru, who married Subhangi, the princess Dasharhi. And he begat on her a son named Viduratha,

कुरुः खलु दाशार्हीम उपयेमे शुभाङ्गीं नाम, तस्याम अस्य जज्ञे विडूरथः (Mahabharata:I.90.41)
