Marpha (मरफा) is a historical village, near Atarra, in Banda district of Uttar Pradesh. It was site of a fort of Chandels later occupied by Raghuvanshis.

Location

Marpha: Around 4 km from Gupt Godavari, in Chitrakuta, there is a beautiful place called Marpha, that is famous for its natural beauty and sparkling waterfalls. There are many places to see in Marpha, like the Jal Mochan Sarovar, 5 faced statue of Lord Shankar and Shri Balaji mandir. You will also find ruins of a fort, that is believed to be built by the Chandela kings. Marpha is quite popular with both the locals and the tourists alike. One can plan a picnic and spend a nice and engaging day exploring the fort ruins, paying a visit to the temples and spending a relaxing time by the waterfall.

History

The tradition assigns Maniagarh as the original home of the Chandelas in Chhatarpur State. Besides this, tradition also assigns eight forts under the command of the Chandelas namely, Barigarh (Chhatarpur Madhya Pradesh), Kalinjar, Ajaigarh Panna, Maniyagarh, Marpha, Maudha, Garha and Mahiyar. But infact four places, Khajuraho, Kalanjara, Mahoba and Ajaygarh were the backbone of the Chandela empire. ,

मरफा

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर ने लेख किया है ...मरफा (AS, p.712): जिला बांदा, उत्तर प्रदेश में चंदेल शासनकाल में बने हुये दुर्ग के लिए यह स्थान उल्लेखनीय है.

मरफा परिचय

बुन्देलखण्ड में गढ़ मरफा, मण्डीहा, पाथरकछार (Raghurajnagar, Satna), बरौंधा (Raghurajnagar, Satna), बरोद, कोचर , रसिन (जिला चित्रकूट) आदि रघुवंशियों की रियासतें थी । सन 1234 में गुजरात से ... 9 वी सदी तक रघुवंशी ठाकुरो ने यमुना नदी को पार कर उप्र के बांदा, चित्रकूट जिलों में अपनें ठिकानें बनाये थे। चन्देलों के रिक्त दुर्ग "मरफा' पर (जो कि समुद्र तल 1240 फुट. ऊँचा था) अपना प्रभुत्व स्थापित कर लिया और उन्होंने अपने रक्षार्थ. अपने साथ आये हुए लोगों की जो बस्ती बसाई उसका नाम. "बघेलवारी" पड़ गया.
