It rises in Madhya Pradesh and, after flowing through the Vagad region of Rajasthan, enters Gujarat and flows into the Arabian Sea.
The exact position of Mahi River origin is Mindha Village, which is situated in Sardarpur tahsil of Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh.
Mahi River, stream in western India. It rises in the western Vindhya Range, just south of Sardarpur, and flows northward through Madhya Pradesh state. Turning northwest, it enters Banswara/Dungarpur in Rajasthan state and then turns southwest to flow through Godhra, Vadodara districts of Gujarat state through the north of Vadodara city outskirts and enters the sea by a wide estuary past Khambhat (Anand) after about a 580-km course.
Importance
It has given its name to the Mahi Kantha agency of Bombay, and also to the Mehwasis, marauding highlanders often mentioned in Arabian chronicles.
The river Mahi is worshipped by a lot of people and has a lot of temples and places of worship along its shore. It is popularly described as Mahisagar due to the vastness of the river. The newly formed Mahisagar district in Gujarat derives its name from this pious river.
The silt brought down by the Mahi has contributed to the shallowing of the Gulf of Khambhat and the abandonment of its once-prosperous ports. The riverbed lies considerably lower than the land level and is of little use for irrigation.
Total drainage area of this basin is 34842 km² out of which only 6700 km² lies in Madhya Pradesh. Total length of the river is 583 km of which 158 km traverses in Madhya Pradesh. Anas River is the major tributary of Mahi River in the Rajasthan State.

मही नदी (AS, p.727): 1.
2. = माही नदी (AS, p.727): यह नदी मालवा के पहाड़ों (पारियात्र शैललमाला) से निकलकर खंभात की खाड़ी में, प्राचीन स्तंभतीर्थ के निकट गिरती है. यह स्थान स्कंदपुरा, कुमारीका खंड में पवित्र तीर्थ बताया गया है. इसे वायु पुराण 65,97 में महती और वराहपुराण, 65 में रोहि कहा गया है.[4]
3. = माही नदी (AS, p.727): विष्णु पुराण, 2,4,43 में उल्लिखित कुशद्वीप की एक नदी--'विद्यु दम्भा मही चान्या सर्व्वपापहरास्त्विमाः'[5]
