Pakhal Lake

Pakhal Lake (पाखल झील) is a man-made lake in the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary in Warangal district, Telangana, India.[1][2]

History
The great Kakatiya, Telugu king Ganapati Deva has constructed Pakhal lake in the deepest forest area for the future uses of farmland for agriculture purpose. Now approximately 3 Lakh Acres of the area is surviving under it. Kakatiya rulers introduced many kinds of engineering technologies in the constructions. They built Ramappa temple on a lake, as well as thousand pillars temples at Hanamkonda is constructed on sand land and still surviving for past thousand years.
The Great Pakhal
The Great Pakhal: The Pakhal Lake is situated in Pakhal taluq, about 32 miles east of Warangal town. It was constructed about 700 years ago. It is said that when Pratap Rudra failed to pay tribute to the Emperor of Delhi, Shitab Khan, the commander of the emperor’s forces, breached the tank and carried away the hidden treasures from the tank bed. The lake is formed by a 2,000-yard dam across the river Pakhal at a place where it cuts its way through two low hills. [3]
An inscription of the Kakatiya king Ganapati on the bund in Kannada-Telugu praises him as one “ who received homage of Kings of Kase, Kalingas, the Sakas, the Malwas, Koralas, the Hunas, the Kauras, Arimardas, Magadhas, Nepalas, etc.”
पाखल झील
विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[5] ने लेख किया है ...पाखल झील (AS, p.540) वारंगल से लगभग 32 मील पूर्व में स्थित यह झील 700 वर्ष प्राचीन कई जाती है. पाखल नदी के आरपार 2000 गज का बांध बनाकर इस कृत्रिम झील का निर्माण किया गया था. बांध दो नीची पहाड़ियों के बीच में है. कहा जाता है कि जब ककातीय नरेश प्रतापरूद्र ने दिल्ली सम्राट (मोहम्मद तुगलक) को कर देना बंद कर दिया तो सम्राट के सेनापति शिताब खां ने इस झील का बांध तोड़ दिया और झील के किनारे छुपे हुए खजाने को उठाकर ले गया. ककातीय नरेश गणपति का एक अभिलेख झील के बांध पर उत्कीर्ण है जिसमें उसे कलिंग, शक, मालव, कोरल, कौर, अरिमर्द, मगध, नेपाल आदि देशों के नरेशों का अधिपति बताया गया है.
