Pendra (पेंड्रा) or Pendraroad (पेंड्रारोड) is a town and tahail in Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh. It is now in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district of Chhattisgarh. Gaurella is the headquarters of the district. It was carved out of Bilaspur District and inaugurated in February 2020.[1]

Gaurela, also known as Pendra road, is a town in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district in the state of Chhattisgarh, India. Gaurela and Pendra are twin cities.

Gaurela is a town and District Headquarter of GPM District Of Chhattisgarh, and it is also known as Pendra road, The railway station of Gaurela town is Pendra Road railway station on Bilaspur - Katni rail route of South East Central Railway, and is the point on the S.E.C railway. Height from sea level is 618.4 m. The station is nearest to Amarkantak, and Jwaleshwar Mahadev temple. To visit Teerthraj "Amarkantak" alight Pendra road rly station. The nearest airports are Bilaspur (100KM) and Raipur C.G. (126KM). Gaurela (Pendra road) is easily approachable by Road from Bilaspur, Shahdol and Katni.

"Arpa River" is a main river of Chhattisgarh, as per Govt records and physical appearance origin of Arpa river is from village Khodari (खोडरी) of Gaurella block. but some people believe that origin of Arpa is from village Amarpur near Pendra town.

History

'Pujaripali Stone Inscription of Gopaladeva' mentions places Gopalpur and Pendra which appear to have been mentioned, because Gopala had probably some connection with them, Apparently, he was the founder of Gopalapura, which was named after him, and Pendra was perhaps his birth-place. The inscription is undated, but is attributable to the 9th Century A. D. on palaeographic grounds. A Gopaladeva is mentioned in the Boramdeo inscription noticed in Cunningham's Archaeological Reports, Volume X, page 35 ff. Both Pendra and Pujaripali are so close to Kawardha State in which Boramdeo is included that it is very possible that the two Gopalas are identical. Mr. D. R. Bhandarkar holds the same view on other grounds. (Vide Cousens' Progress Report for 1904, page 51.)
