Nalla (नल्ला) Nāla (नाला) is a Jat Gotra found in Punjab and Rajasthan.

Origin

Jat Gotras Namesake

Nalla (Jat clan) = Nonalla (नोन्नला) mentioned in V.12 of (p.408) of Amoda Plates Of Prithvideva I (Kalachuri) Year 831 (=1079 AD).^[1] ....(V. 12) (His wife) named Nônnala (नोन्नला) was dear to him as valour is to a brave person. She was the daughter of Vajuvarman, the lord of the Kômô-mandala (कोमो-मण्डल) .

Nalla (Jat clan) = Ratnadeva (I) married Nônallâ (नोनल्ला) the daughter of Vajjûka (वज्जूक), the lord of the Kômô-mandala. She bore to him a son name Prithvideva (I) who succeeded him.Khimidi mentioned in V.23 of Ratanpur Stone Inscription Of Jajalladeva I - (Kalachuri) Year 866 (=1114 AD).^[2]

Nalla (Jat clan) → Raja Nala. Damoh city in Madhya Pradesh is said to get name after Damayanti (दमयन्ती), the daughter of Bhima (not the Pandava) and a princess of the Vidarbha Kingdom, who marries Raja Nala of the Nishadha kingdom.^[3]^[4]

Nalla (Jat clan) → Raneh (रनेह). Raneh is a village in Hata tahsil in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh. Raneh is said to be founded by Raja Nala, husband of Damayanti.^[5]

History

Amoda Plates Of Prithvideva I (Kalachuri) Year 831 (=1079 AD) mention ....The plates were granted by Prithvïdêva (I) of the Kalachuri Dynasty of Ratanpur. Kokkala, the founder of the family of the Chedi kings had eighteen sons of whom the eldest became the lord of Tripuri. He made his brothers the lords of mandalas by his side. In the family of a younger brother of these was born Kalingarâja. His son was Kamalarâja, who vanquished the king of Utkala and gave his fortune to his lord [p.405]: Gângëyadëva. His son was Ratnârâja, who married Nônnalâ/Nonalla, the daughter of Vaju-varman, the lord of the Kômô-Mandala. Their son was Prithvîdëva (I), the donor of the present grant.^[6]
