Karir (करीर) Kareer (करीर) gotra Jats are found in Haryana and Rajasthan. Karerai/Karai/Karer clan is found in Afghanistan. [1]It is a branch of Johiya.

Origin

History

The forefathers of Karir - Kareer Gotra Jats of Sirsa District originally belonged to ditrict Nagore in Rajasthan & are common to the forefathers of Kareer Gotra Jats of Vill. Nithrana in Hanumangarh (Raj.) & Vill. Kharia Khera in Sirsa District .

According to H.A. Rose[3] who writes that the Bagri Jats have certain sections which might appear totemistic, but very rarely is any reverence paid to the totem. Such are :— Karir, a tree,in tahsil Hansi, Hisar, Haryana.

In Mahabharata

Vana Parva, Mahabharata/Book III Chapter 174 mentions Pandvas journey twelfth year of their sojourn in forests having arrived reach Saraswati River and enter Dwaitavana where trees grew on the banks of the Saraswati which was, as it were, the home of the celestials, and the favourite (resort) of Yakshas and Gandharvas and Maharshis, those sons of kings lived there in happiness.

पलक्षाक्ष रौहीतक वेतसाश च; सनुहा बथर्यः खथिराः शिरीषाः
बिल्वेङ्गुथाः पीलु शमी करीराः; सरस्वती तीररुहा बभूवुः (Mahabharata:III.174.23)

Karna Parva/Mahabharata Book VIII Chapter 30 incidence is quoted by K R Qanungo[4] who mentions this incidence from Mahabharata that there is a town named Sakala and river named Apaga where section of the Bahikas, known as the Jartikas, dwell. He mentions about a Bahika who had to sojourn for a time in Kuru-jungal country sang the following song about the women of his country:

शमी पीलु करीराणां वनेषु सुखवर्त्मसु
अपूपान सक्तु पिण्डीश च खाथन्तॊ मदितान्विताः (Mahabharata:VIII.30.24)

Meaning - "When shall I be amongst those ladies eating cakes of flour and meat and balls of pounded barley mixed with skimmed milk, in the forests, having many pleasant paths of Sami and Pilu and Karira!" (VIII.30.24)

Kareer / Karir gotra jats are settled in two villages of Distt. Sirsa viz: Ali Mohammad & Kharia Khera with common ancestral roots in Distt. Nagaur ( Vill. Kangar / Goth Nagaur ) in Rajasthan. There are about 15 families of kareer's in Vill. Ali Mohammad who are mainly engaged in the profession Agriculture , Govt Jobs & Legal Profession who are heirs of Late Sh Gobind Ram Kareer, a respected & well known notable person of Vill. Ali- Mohammad.

There are many villages of Kareer gotra Bishnois in Distt. Fatehabad (Haryana) also whose fore fathers are said to have migrated from Rajasthan & are said to be converted from Jats etc at the time of Guru Jambheshwar Ji, Maharaj, a pious Saint of Rajasthan( India).
