Kukar
Kukar (कुकर) Kukur (कुकुर)[1]Kukal (कुकल) Kukkar (कुक्कर)[2] is an ancient gotra of Jats found in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Origin
It is derived from Kukura (कुकर) tribe of Mahabharata period.
As per Bhagavata Purana ancestry of Kukura was as under:
Andhaka → Kukura → Bahni → Viloman → Kapotaroman → Anu → → Andhaka → Dundubhi → Avidyota → Punarvasu → Ahuka → Ugrasena → Kansa
Jat Gotras Namesake
- Kukar (कुकर) (Jat clan) → Kukarpani (कुकरपानी). Kukarpani (कुकरपानी) village is in Jamai tahsil in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh.
- Kukar (कुकर) (Jat clan) → Kukar Munda (कुकर मुंडा) village is in Parasia tahsil in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh.
History
Ram Swarup Joon[3] writes In the Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 48, while describing various Kings who attended a ceremony in the Durbar (court) of Maharaja Yudhisthira, seventeen names are mentioned which are today found as Jat gotras. These are Malhia, Mylaw, Sindhar, Gandhar, Mahity, Mahe, Savi, Bath, Dharan, Virk, Dard, Shaly, Matash, Kukar (Khokar) Kak, Takshak, Sand, Bahik (Bathi) Bije (Bijenia), Andhra, Sorashtra (Rathi) Mann, Ar, Sohat, Kukat, Othiwal (Othval).
Ram Swarup Joon[4] writes.... According to Bhagwatdatta, Baluchis of (of Balochistan) today are the descendants of Anu. Baluchya, Balhara, Bal, Balan are Jat gotras. Kak, Kakarzai, Klock, Kukar, Khokar, Karskar Jats belong to the Anu Branch. Thirty thousand Baluchis in Makran were recognised as Jats. Baluchis of the Lomri region are described as Jats in their chronicles. In the Rig-Veda, there are references to the Kabul River of Afghanistan, Gomal Valley, and rivers Ganga and Jamuna. There are also references to Kshatriya and the five branches of the Yayati Dynasty.
Ram Swarup Joon[5] writes about Kukarnag, Kakrryan or Kak: Kukar was the son of Takshak. Kak, Kakrayan, Kakar, Khokhar are derivatives of Kukar. They are also called Karaskars. The Kukar rulers are also mentioned to be present at King Yudhisthira's coronation. They are called Kukars in Dwarika and Kakar in Baluchistan. Kakarzi amongst the Baluch is a big tribe. The Kukar dynasty has been erroneously called a Suryavanshi dynasty.
Their present name is Kekeraul (केकेरौल) and they were rulers in Malwa. Kukar was also name of a republic. Kokorani (कोकोराणी) gotra of Jats were habitants of republic of Kukur during Mahabharata period. [6]
Khokhar is a derivative of Kukar. Khokhars are mentioned in Vayu Purana and Visnu Purana as 'Kokarakas'. [7] [8]
In Mahabharata
Kukura (कुकुर) - A very ancient northwestern Mahabharata tribe and branch of the Yadava confederacy. Mentioned in Mahabharata (geography' (VI. 10.41) and the tribute list (II.48.14). Supported Duryodhana in the war (VI. 47.7) .
- संस्दानाः शूरसेनाश च वेणिकाः कुकुरास तदा
- आरेवकास तरिगर्ताश च मथ्रका यवनास तदा (VI.47.7)
- अम्बष्ठाः कौकुरास तार्क्ष्या वस्त्रपाः पह्लवैः सह
- वसातयः समौलेयाः सह कषुद्रकमालवैः (II.48.14)
- The Mahabharata Tribe - Kukura (कुकुर) may be identified with Jat Gotra - Khokhar/Kukar/Kukal which is a derivative of Kukar. Khokhars are mentioned in Vayu Purana and Visnu Purana as 'Kokarakas'. [9] [10]

- कुकरबरु (जाट गोत्र - कुकर) : कुकरबरु नाम का गाँव झारखंड के पश्चिमी सिंहभूम जिले की सोनुआ विकास-खंड में है।
मत्स्य पुराण
कृष्ण वंशावली में बभ्रु के संयोग से कंक की कन्या ने कुकुर, भजमान, शशि और कम्बलबर्हिष नामक चार पुत्रों को जन्म दिया। कुकुर का पुत्र वृष्णि,* वृष्णि का पुत्र धृति, उसका पुत्र कपोतरोमा, उसका पुत्र तैत्तिरि, उसका पुत्र सर्प, उसका पुत्र विद्वान् नल था। नल का पुत्र दरदुन्दुभि* नाम से कहा जाता था ॥51-63॥ नरश्रेष्ठ दरदुन्दुभि पुत्रप्राप्ति के लिये अश्वमेध-यज्ञ का अनुष्ठान कर रहे थे उस विशाल यज्ञ में पुनर्वसु नामक पुत्र प्रादुर्भूत हुआ। पुनर्वसु अतिरात्र के मध्य में सभा के बीच प्रकट हुआ था, इसलिये वह विदान्, शुभाशुभ कर्मों का ज्ञाता, यज्ञपरायण और दानी था।
बुद्धिमानों में श्रेष्ठ राजन्! पुनर्वसु के आहुक नामक पुत्र और आहुकी नाम की कन्या- ये जुड़वीं संतान पैदा हुई। इनमें आहुक अजेय और लोकप्रसिद्ध था।
