Palwal (पलवल) is the name of a town, and now a fulfledged district in southern Haryana. Earlier, it was a tahsil town, under Faridabad district. Its ancient name was Palvalatira (Palvalatīra).
Origin
Palwal is named after Pralambasura who was killed by Baladeva, elder btother of Krishna, Baladeva Chhat is celebrated to commemorate this event. दैत्य प्रलंबसुर का वध श्रीकृष्ण के बड़े भाई बलराम ने बाल्यकाल में किया था।

V. S. Agrawala[2] writes that Panini mentions village name in category ending Tīra (IV.2.106) - The Kāśikā mentions Palvalatira (Palvalatīra).
