Sampla (सांपला) (PIN Code- 124501) is a town and tahsil of Rohtak district in Haryana.

Location

Sampla is located at NH-10 between Bahadurgarh and Rohtak. Railway line (Delhi-Rohtak-Jind-Firozpur) also crosses this town and all main trains stop here. There is direct road connectivity to Jhajjar, Sonipat and Beri also. Being located at a prominent inter-section route, this town is also a mini business hub for neighbouring areas. The birthplace of Sir Chhotu Ram (village Ghari Sampla) is also located near this town.

Mention by Pliny

Pliny mentions The Islands of the Euxine (Black Sea).... The islands of the Euxine are the Placate or Cyaneæ¹, otherwise called Symplegades, and Apollonia, surnamed Thynias², to distinguish it from the island of that name³ in Europe; it is four miles in circumference, and one mile distant from the mainland. Opposite to Pharnacea⁴ is Chalceritis, to which the Greeks have given the name of Aria⁵, and consecrated it to Mars; here, they say, there were birds that used to attack strangers with blows of their wings.

History

दलीपसिंह अहलावत लिखते हैं -

.....उस समय रोहतक बंगाल के गवर्नर के मातहत था, तथा कमिश्नरी का हैड क्वार्टर आगरा था। रोहतक का डिप्टी कमिश्नर जोहन एडमलौक था। 23 मई को क्रान्तिकारी सेना ने बहादुरगढ़ में प्रवेश किया और 24 मई को रोहतक पहुंची। डिप्टी कमिश्नर गोहाना के रास्ते करनाल भाग गया। रहे हुए अंग्रेज अधिकारियों को मार दिया गया। जेल के दरवाजे खोल दिये गए, कचहरी को आग लगा दी गयी। क्रान्तिकारी सेना ने शहर के हिन्दुओं को लूटना चाहा परन्तु जाटों ने ऐसा न करने दिया। क्रान्तिकारियों ने खजाने से दो लाख रुपया निकाल लिया। मांडौठी, मदीना, महम की चौकियां लूट ली गईं। सांपला तहसील को आग लगा दी गई। सभी अंग्रेज स्त्रियों को जाटों ने, मुस्लिम राजपूत (रांघड़ों) के विरोध के बावजूद, सही सलामत उनके ठिकानों पर पहुंचा दिया। गोहाना पर गठवाला मलिक जाटों ने कब्जा जमा लिया। अंग्रेजी सेना 30 मई को अम्बाला से रोहतक को चली, परन्तु देशी सेना ने उसे श्यामड़ी (सामड़ी) के जंगल में युद्ध करके हरा दिया।
