Dhala (ढाला)[1] [2] is a gotra of the Jats. It is a variant of Dhal.

Origin

According to H.A. Rose, Dhala (ढाला) is a caster of metals. [3]

History

Bhim Singh Dahiya[4] tells that the Guptas were having ministers and generals with foreign name (Amrakardava, son of Undana, Sanakanika Maharaja-Dhala, son of Chhaglasa.

Udayagiri Cave Inscription of Chandragupta II (401-402 CE) tells:

Perfection has been attained! In the year 80 (and) 2, on the eleventh lunar day of the bright fortnight of the month Âshâdha,— this (is) the appropriate religious gift of the Sanakânika, the Mahârâja . . dhala (?),— the son’s son of the Mahârâja Chhagalaga; (and) the son of the Mahârâja Vishnudâsa,— who meditates on the feet of the Paramabhattâraka and Mahârâjâdhirâja, the glorious Chandragupta (II.) [5]

  • Dhala crater is a crater formed by an asteroid impact.[6] It is situated in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, India. Location: N25°17'59.7" and E78°8'3.1". It is the second such crater found in India, after Lonar lake.[7] The diameter of the structure is estimated at 11 km and basement rocks are predominantly composed of granitoids. It is estimated that the impact occurred between 1.6 and 2.5 Ga[8] or about 2,500 million years ago. Dhala crater is considered as the largest in India as well as between the Mediterranean and Southeast Asia.[9][10] The crater is considered a "large complex impact structure" with an estimated diameter extending up to 25 km.[11]
