Ishwar Singh Nehra
Dr. Ishwar Singh Nehra (2 May 1955 - 23 June 2009)(डॉ. ईश्वर सिंह नेहरा) was a Doctor and a Social worker based at Sikar, whose role in agitation for getting status of OBC in Job reservation for Jats has been appreciable. He was also District Congress Vice-President Sikar.
Birth
Ishwar Singh Nehra was born on 2 May 1955 in the family of Ch. Laxman Singh and Smt Jaikauri at village Bhakarwasi in Fatehpur tahsil in Sikar district in Rajasthan. [1]
Education
He passed 10th class in 1971 from G D Ruiya Rajkiya Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Ramgarh Shekhawati with 9th Rank in the State. He passed Senior School in year 1972 and passed RPMT in the same year with 3rd rank and got admission in MBBS in Sampurna Nand Medical College Bikaner. He completed his MBBS Degree in 1979. He did M.S. (Gynaecology) in March-1983. [2]
Marriage
Ishwar Singh Nehra got married early in childhood with Sharda who was studying in 10th class at that time. Sharda was daughter of Ch. Nand Lal Birkh of Mukundgarh town in Jhunjhunu district. [3]
Doctor's profession
He started his Doctor's profession from Shri Kalyan Rajakiy Chikitsalay Sikar. Nehra was very popular among the people of Sikar. He had set up Sikar Hospital and Research Center.
Movement for reservation in jobs
Sikar came in prominence due to the movement for reservation in jobs for Jats. On 25 December 1995 Sikar repeated the history of 1934. 3 lakh Jats gathered on this date at Sikar and lighted Jat Arakshan Mashal and handed it over to Om Prakash Abusaria, President Jhunjhunu Jat Maha Sabha. This mashal proved a mile stone in job reservation for Jats. On 25 December 1995 a grand Jat kavi Sammelan was organized by Dr Nehra and 'Jat Jwala' Souvenir was also published. The entire expenditure of this Sammelan was born by Dr Nehra.
The then Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, promised reservation and Other Backward Classes (OBC) status to Jats on 30 June 1999 in his speech at Sikar. Dr Gyan Prakash Pilania, ex Director General of Police and Patron of Jat Mahasabha, launched the movement of reservation in jobs for Jats at Ramlila maidan in a huge gathering at Sikar on 29 August 1999.
As a result of pressure of mass movement, the central government passed orders on 3 November 1999, to include the Jats of Rajasthan, excluding Bharatpur and Dholpur districts, in the list of backward class.
The credit for this goes to All India Jat Mahasabha, Rajasthan Jat Mahasabha, and Sikar Jat Mahasabha . The leaders who are credited for this movement are

Death
He died a tragic death on 23 June 2009. District Congress vice-president and a well-known doctor Ishwar Singh Nehra reportedly committed suicide in the rest room of his hospital in Sikar on Monday morning. Police found a suicide note and are investigating the matter.
According to reports, Nehra lived with his two sons on Bikaner Road and had set up Sikar Hospital and Research Center, which he used to visit daily. On Monday he visited hospital and, after taking a stroll round the premises, he went to his rest room.
Usually he came out of his room at 8.30 am, but on Monday when he did not do so his son Vikas Nehra went to investigate. He found the doctor lying in an unconscious state with his mouth foaming. Vikas suspected his father had consumed some poisonous substance. By the time he could inform the hospital staff and call other doctors Nehra had died.
A close relative said that Nehra had two sons and a daughter, one of the sons and the daughter are doctors while the other son is a student. Nehra was very popular in Sikar.
Another family member said that Nehra on several occasions raised social issues, he also started an organization Samajik Nyaya Sangathan' for that purpose. Expressing shock at his death, local people said that Nehra was a very bold and gentle person. No one expected he could take such an extreme step.
Circle Officer, Prataparam Meena told TOI that police have found a suicide note from the deceased, in which he wrote about his grief after the death of his wife and his ill-health. "Nehra also wrote that he was committing suicide due to the situation surrounding him therefore no one from his family should be troubled by the police," he said.
Meena added that during preliminary investigation, it was found that Nehra consumed sulphas. He also said that the body of deceased has been handed over to the family after conducting a post-martum.
