Makrana
Makrana (मकराना) is a city and tahsil in Nagaur district of Rajasthan. It is known for the business of marble. Makrana is famous for marble mined from the mines around it.It is said that Taj Mahal was built from Makrana marble. Makrana is a small town but quite rich in its marble reserves. The main occupation of residents of the town revolves totally around marble mining.

History
It was founded by Ranwa Jats. Sahajarao was the ancestor of Ranwa gotra who left Nagaur in Vikram Samvat 1111 and founded village Saamikhera and constructed fort and Shiva temple there. Later on, 12 sons of Sahaja founded the villages Jachas, Bhikhanwasi, Khanadi, Karkedi, Maulasar, Makrana, Bai, Buchyasi, Bhurbhura, Jabdinagar, Chausal and Hirani.

Makrana is located at 27.05 N and 74.72 E [1]. It has an average elevation of 408 metres (1338 feet).
