Kotri River

Kotri River (कोटरी नदी) , also known as Paralkot river (परलकोट नदी), is a tributary of Indravati River that flows through Chhattisgarh and Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. Kotari River flows in the western portion of the Bhanupratappur from north to south.

The tributaries for Kotri River

The tributaries for Kotri River are Waler, Jemri, Karakassa, Bharke, Belengar, Mendaki, Dondri and Khandi. ^[1]

Under the aquifer mapping Programme of Kanker district, three blocks of Kanker District namely Charama, Kanker and Narharpur were taken up covering an area of 1989 sq. km. The remaining blocks Bhanupratappur, Koylibeda, Durgkondal and Antagarh are excluded as they are naxal affected. The total population of the study area as per 2011 Census is 7,48,941 out of which rural population is 6,72,180 & the urban population is only 76,761. Nearly 75 % of the area is drained by Kotri River, which is tributary to Godavari River. The tributaries for Kotri River are Waler, Jemri, Karakassa, Bharke, Belengar, Mendaki, Dondri and Khandi. The remaining 25% of the area is drained by Mahanadi River in the east with the tributaries of Duth, Hatkal, Turi, Kukari, Nani, Jura and Baroda. The study area experiences sub-tropical climate. ^[2]

Course

The river rises in the western hills of Bastar, crosses Bhanupratappur tahsil and flows south till it meets Indravati near Bhamragad, a Village and a taluka in Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra.^[3]

यह इन्द्रावती की सबसे बड़ी सहायक नदी है । इसका उद्गम दुर्ग जिले से हुआ है । इसका अप्रवाह क्षेत्र दक्षिण-पश्चम सीमा पर राजनांदगांव की उच्च भूमि पर है । ^[4]
