Chaudhary Prithvi Singh Bedharak (1904-1973) (चौधरी पृथ्वीसिंह बेधड़क) was a poet and folk-singer from village Shikopur (शिकोपुर) in Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh. He was born on in Tomar gotra Jat family.

He was a strong follower of Swami Dayanand Saraswati and played very important role in spreading the doctrines of Arya Samaj in the remotest villages of northern India. He was at the same time, a nationalist, poet, singer, social reformer and preacher.

He toured almost every village in north India to preach eradication of the social evils and superstitions prevalent at that time in the Jat Samaj as well as other rural communities. He created social awakening in the society through his influential speech. He devoted his entire life for the public welfare. He actively participating in the freedom movement of India. On account of this, he had to go to jail several times.

Layalpur (Punjab) adhiveshana had declared Sir Chhotu Ram as rahbare ajam. Similarly in Sonipat and Delhi adhiveshana of All India Jat Mahasabha vajir-e-ajam Punjab Sir Sikandar Hayat, in presence of Sir Chhotu Ram, awarded the title Bedharak to Chaudhary Prithvi Singh. [1]

His area of action was north India. So he selected the great persons from the pages of history of the region as characters in his poetic writings. His heroes were Maharaja Surajmal, Maharaja Jawahar Singh, Durgadas, Amar Singh Rathore, Hammeer, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sir Chhotu Ram etc. His poetry is mainly based on rhythm. He has used local proverbs and phrases of Braj, Haryanvi, Rajasthani, Arabi-Farsi, and English very frequently in his poetry. [2]


He served Arya Samaj for about 45 years and wrote 48 books. He was not highly educated but achieved every thing through self-study. [3]


Death

During last days of his life he was suffering from a severe illness. He developed wounds in legs which could not be cured. He was probably suffering from diabetes. His last book was 'manavata' (मानवता) published in 1972. This book reveals his great sufferings of the last days of his life.[4]

He died on 10 February 1973.[5]

Jat Samaj Agra had dedicated the January-February 2005 issue to this nationalist poet. There is a strong need to collect all his publications and digitize and preserve them for the future generations.

गोठडा (सीकर) का जलसा सन 1938

जयपुर सीकर प्रकरण में शेखावाटी जाट किसान पंचायत ने जयपुर का साथ दिया था. विजयोत्सव के रूप में शेखावाटी जाट किसान पंचायत का वार्षिक जलसा गोठडा गाँव में 11 व 12 सितम्बर 1938 को शिवदानसिंह अलीगढ की अध्यक्षता में हुआ जिसमें 10-11 हजार किसान, जिनमें 500 स्त्रियाँ थी, शामिल हुए. सम्मलेन में उपस्थ्तित प्रमुख नेताओं में आप भी थे. पीरागढ़ी (दिल्ली) का एक किस्सा

एक बार सर छोटूराम पीरागढ़ी (दिल्ली) में एक विशाल जलसे की अध्यक्षता कर रहे थे। उस जलसे में एक उच्च अधिकारी अंग्रेज अफसर भी था। भजनोपदेशक पृथ्वीसिंह ‘बेधड़क’ ने इस जलसे में अपने एक भजन में अंग्रेज सरकार की खुलकर आलोचना की और दोष बताए। उस अंग्रेज अफसर ने पृथ्वीसिंह ‘बेधड़क’ को गाना बन्द करने का आदेश दिया। सर चौधरी छोटूराम ने उस अंग्रेज अफसर को डांटते हुए कहा कि “तू मेरी उपस्थिति में इसके गाने को बन्द करने की हिम्मत कैसे कर बैठा?” इस पर पृथ्वीसिंह ने अपना वही गाना फिर चालू कर दिया और सारी बातें कहकर समाप्त किया।[7]

पृथ्वीसिंह बेधङक की रचनायें

पृथ्वीसिंह बेधङक के लिखे भजन संग्रह समय समय पर प्रकाशित हुए। वो अपने समय के नेताओं और क्रान्तिकारियों में बहुत ही प्रचलित और लोकप्रिय थे। उनके द्वारा लिखित भजनों की कोई सुचि उपलब्ध नहीं है परन्तु कुछ भजन संग्रह किसी व्यक्तिगत संग्रहालय में अवश्य मिल सकते हैं और उन्हे संकलित करने की आवश्यकता है।
