Tamia (तामिया) is a town and tahsil in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. It is situated 55 km away from district headquarter Chhindwara. Overlooking the Narmada valley, Tamia is a picturesque holiday and picnic resort on Satpura Ranges. From the Tamia Rest House, the view of the Dudhi plateau from 330 metres of sheer overhanging cliffs is one of the most spectacular anywhere south of the Vindhyas. Tamia is 78 km from Pachmarhi. ^[1]

Tourist Places in and around Tamia

One of the hidden treasures of Madhya Pradesh, Tamia is a picturesque forest destination that offers scenic and breath-taking views of dense forests and mountains. Untouched and unexplored, Tamia is the perfect location to disconnect from the world and experience absolute tranquillity. A few houses on the hill top offer panoramic views of the steep hills, vast greenery and deep valleys. Inaccessible for a very long time, Tamia has stayed away from any form of commercialization, and makes for the perfect monsoon getaway. The experience is akin to visiting the forests depicted in your childhood books and cartoons.^[2]

Perched on a mountaintop, Tamia provides stunning views of the horseshoe-shaped Patalkot Valley as well as the thick forests that surround it. These forests are home to certain medicinal plants and rocks that date back 2500 million years.

Also, the place has many old and well-maintained houses exhibiting architecture of the British Era that are located at some of the best spots and cliff edges.

Tamia in the rainy season: During the rainy season, Tamia experiences exceptionally pleasant weather. Situated at a high altitude and surrounded by numerous hills, the area often becomes enveloped in clouds, leading to cooler temperatures than usual. It rains, many tourists coming here like to walk in the rain and climb the mountains but it is a bit risky. The density of forests here increases further during the rainy season.

Tamia Rest House: The Public Works Department Rest House (PWD REST House) of Tamia is one of the main places. This rest house stands at an altitude of approximately 1200 meters above sea level, offering a stunning panoramic view of nature. Known as the viewpoint of Tamia, it attracts numerous visitors, especially during the rainy season when it appears as though clouds have enveloped the dense forests below. Due to this place being at a height above sea level, very strong winds blow here, the natural beauty of this place is worth seeing. From this rest house, the sunset and high hills are visible on one side. This rest house is a short distance from the main road and is easily accessible.^[3]

Chhota Mahadev Cave: The Chhota Mahadev Temple, also known as Chhota Mahadev’s Cave, is located approximately 1.5 kilometers from Tamia’s rest house. It’s nestled within a cave, accessible by descending from the rest house. The route presents a mix of ease and challenge, as it offers mesmerizing views of nature, with a towering hill on one side and a deep gorge on the other, pleasing the senses. Regarded as ancient, the temple of Chhota Mahadev features a perennial small waterfall, adding to its allure.^[4]

Tamia waterfalls: During monsoon, a froth of water cascades down forming the Tamia waterfall which is visited by many tourists. Therefore, if you're thinking about taking a vacation in Madhya Pradesh, going to Tamia would allow you to connect with nature without any disturbances. ^[5]

Tamia is a serene place that can be visited throughout the year. With green foliage spread across the valley, it gives you the feel of a hill station. But to get the most out of your trip, consider planning a vacation in Tamia during the monsoon season i.e., between June and September.

Nainadevi Temple Tamia: There is a very ancient temple of Naina Devi, just a few kilometers away from Tamia on the Chhindwara-Pipariya main road. Whoever passes through here definitely goes to visit this temple. A beautiful statue of Naina Devi is present in this temple. A wonderful view of nature can be seen from here. The main road is very winding as it passes through dense forests and mountains, making the journey memorable.

Sunset Point, Tamia: To reach Sunset Point in Tamia, head to the hill opposite the rest house, but be prepared to hike 2-3 kilometers through dense forests. This spot offers stunning views, especially during sunset. The trek takes 1 to 2 hours, so plan accordingly and bring water as there are no facilities en route. Travel in a group due to the forest path and the darkness that falls by the time you arrive.

Tamia Reservoir: At some distance from Tamia city, a reservoir has been constructed between two hills which is used for drinking water here, this reservoir is known as Tamia Reservoir. This reservoir looks very beautiful amidst the lush green dense forests. Whoever comes here to see the natural beauty definitely goes here. If one climbs the hill in front of this reservoir, its view becomes even more beautiful. Far away from the city, the calm environment and fast-moving wind give a different feeling.^[6]

Jhingaria Falls, Delakhari Tamia: There is a very beautiful waterfall on a river flowing through dense forests, at a distance of about 10 kilometers from Delakhari place on the Tamia to Pipariya road. This waterfall is one of the major waterfalls of Chinadwara district. Its height is about 5 meters. The water here is very clean. Yes, due to water falling from a height, a deep pond has been formed here. This place is suitable for memorable photography in the lush green environment amidst nature. This was an unknown place till now and it came to light only a few years ago. Till now only the local people knew about it but now people from far and wide come here to see the natural view. After Diwali, a small fair is organized here in which nearby villagers come to participate.^[7]

Anhoni sulphur springs:

Anhoni village is near Mahuljhir Police Station and at a distance of 2 miles from the village Jhirpa on Chhindwara-Piparia road. A hill stream with hot and boiling sulphur springs flows near the village. These springs, at a further distance, assume the form of a nullah (short stream). The water is believed to be beneficial for skin diseases and for certain impurities of the blood.

Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve: Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve is a conservation area in the Satpura Range in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The Government of India created it in March 1999 and covered parts of Hoshangabad, Betul, and Chhindwara districts. The total area of the biosphere reserve is 4926.28 square km. It consists of three wildlife conservation units: Bori Sanctuary (518.00 km²), Satpura National Park (524.37 km²), and Pachmarhi Sanctuary (461.37 km²). Authorities designated Satpura National Park as the core zone, while the remaining 4401.91 sq km, including Bori and Pachmarhi sanctuaries, serves as the buffer zone. Most of the area of Tamia falls in the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve. Authorities established this biosphere reserve to conserve various wild species teetering on the brink of extinction.^[8]

Pachmarhi (49 km): Situated at 1100 m, Pachmarhi, popularly known as 'Satpura ki Rani' (Queen of Satpura), sits beautifully, embellished by nature and history, amidst the Satpura range.

Pristine Tawa (50 km): Tawa The Tawa Dam & Reservoir offers a scenic escape from the hustle bustle of city life. It is set amidst lush greenery, and offers much scope for adventure

तामिया में ब्रिटिश काल के कई पुराने और अच्छी तरह से बनाए गए घर मौजूद हैं, जो कुछ बेहतरीन जगहों और चट्टानों के किनारों पर स्थित हैं. ये संरचनाएं इस जगह को एक अनूठा आकर्षण देती हैं, समुद्र तल से 3,765 फीट (1,148 मीटर) की ऊंचाई पर स्थित सरकारी डाक बंगला घने जंगलों से घिरा हुआ है और यहां से अतीत की वास्तुकला की झलक मिलती है.

मानसून में ऊंचाई से गिरते झरनों का ले आनंद: मानसून के दौरान, तामिया में झरने अपने शानदार स्वरूप में पूरे उफान से बहते है, ऊंचाई से गिरते हुए झरने को आप ऊंचाई से भी देख सकते है जिससे आपको चारों ओर फुहार और ढूंढ नजर आता है. मानसून में यहां का नजर मनमोहक हो जाता है, यह झरना कई पर्यटकों को अपनी ओर आकर्षित करता है, जो इसे मध्य प्रदेश की प्राकृतिक सुंदरता का अनुभव करने के इच्छुक किसी भी व्यक्ति के लिए एक ज़रूरी जगह बनाता है.

सतपुड़ा नेशनल पार्क का प्रवेश द्वार तामिया देलाखारी

तामिया, चिमटीपुर, पातालकोट, झिंगरिया के पर्यटक अब सीधे सतपुड़ा नेशलन पार्क के वन्यप्राणियों का दीदार कर सकेंगे। सतपुड़ा नेशनल पार्क के बफर जोन का नया गेट बन रहा है, जहां तामिया देलाखारी पातालकोट आने वाले पर्यटक अब देलाखारी, सीतोडोंगरी होते हुए डूडी गांव से सतपुड़ा टाइगर रिजर्व पार्क की सैर कर सकेंगे। सतपुड़ा नेशनल पार्क के बफर जोन के हिस्से में प्रवेश द्वार तामिया देलाखारी होते हुए बनाया जा रहा है। यानी इस नेशनल पार्क में प्रवेश का नया गेट बन रहा है, जिसका सीधा फायदा जिले में आने वाले पर्यटकों को पहुंचेगा। बताया जा रहा है कि सतपुड़ा नेशनल पार्क के अधिकारी और स्थानीय वनमंडल के अधिकारियों के बीच पिछले दिनों हुई बैठक में लगभग सबकुछ तय हो चुका है और एक अक्टूबर से यह गेट खुल जाएंगे। यदि सब कुछ ठीक रहता है और मौसम साथ देता है तो सतपुड़ा नेशनल पार्क में जाने का नया गेट खुल जाएगा। यह क्षेत्र सतपुड़ा नेशनल पार्क का बफर जोन क्षेत्र है। ^[10]
