Jat clan
Vats (वत्स) [1] is gotra of Jats found in District Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. [2] This gotra originated after an ancient kingdom named Vatsa (वत्स). [3]
History
In Mahabharata
Vatsabhumi (वत्सभूमि) Mahabharata (II.27.9), (3-255-10),
Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 27 mentions the countries subjugated by Bhimasena. Vatsabhumi (वत्सभूमि) is in Mahabharata (II.27.9).[4].... And the mighty son of Kunti then subjugated, by sheer force, the country called Vatsabhumi, and the king of the Bhargas, as also the ruler of the Nishadas and Manimat and numerous other kings.
Vana Parva, Mahabharata/Book III Chapter 255 describes Karna's victory march and countries subjugated. Vatsabhumi (वत्सभूमि) is mentioned in Mahabharata (3-255-10). [5]....Having (thus) conquered the eastern quarter Karna then presented himself before Vatsabhumi (वत्सभूमि) (3-255-9a). And having taken Batsa-bhumi (3-255-10a), he reduced Kevala (केवल) (3-255-10a), and Mrittikavati (मृत्तिकावती) (3-255-10a), and Mohana (मोहन) (3-255-10b) and Pattana (पत्तन) (3-255-10b), and Tripuri (त्रिपुरी) (3-255-10b), and Kosala (कोसला) (3-255-10b),--and compelled all these to pay tribute.
