Sewakunj at Laduna

Dhandu (धांदू) Dhandhu (धान्धू) gotra Jats live in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and Pakistan.

Origin

Dhandhuraja in Paramara history brought fame to the Dhandu clan.

History

Dhandhu Jats were rulers of Laduna in Mandsaur district prior to first Rathore ruler Ratan Singh of Ratlam in 17th century. Laduna (लदूना) is a village in Sitamau tehsil of Mandsaur district in Madhya Pradesh. It is about 30 km south-east of Mandsaur and 4 km from Sitamau.

The Laduna village was founded in 5th century AD. There is a beautiful lake named Lavasagar, on the eastern bank of which is situated the Rajniwas Fort. It was earlier ruled by Dhandhu Jats and later occupied by first Rathore ruler Ratan Singh of Ratlam in 17th century. Laduna was the capital of then Sitamau state from 1750 to 1820 AD. The Rajniwas was founded by Chhatrasal, the fifth son of Ratan Singh and construction completed by later rulers. In the middle of lack is a temple known as Sewakunj. [1]

Mount Abu Vimala Temple Inscription of v.s. 1378 (1322 AD)

Mount Abu Vimala Temple Inscription of v.s. 1378 (1322 AD) mentions Dhandu in para-4-5 .....

4. maralah kāla[h*] pratyarthi-māṇdalikānā[m*] | Chamdrāvatipur-isah samajani
vir-āgraṇi[r*]=Dha[m*]dhuh ।। 5 Sri-Bhimadevasya nripasa(sya) sevām=

5. Bhojanripam prapede ||

The first part begins with, the well-known story how on the mountain Arbuda there sprang from the fire-pit (anala-kunda, agni-kunga) of the sage Vasishtha the hero Paramara. In his lineage appeared the hero Kānhaḍadeva ; and in his family there was a chief named Dhandhu (Dhandhuraja), who was lord of the town of Chandrāvati and who, averse from rendering homage to the Chaulukya king Bhimadva I and to escape that king's anger, took refuge with king Bhoja, the lord of Dhārā.

The chief Dhandhu or Dhandhuraja, spoken of in the preceding paragraph, apparently is the Prarara (or Paramara) Dhandhuka mentioned above, whose son Purnapala ruled the Arbuda territory in the Vikrama years 1099 and 1102. He would of course have been a contemporary of both the Chalukya Bhimadeva I and the Paramara Bhojadeva of Malava. [2]
