Gait (गैट) Geta (गेटा)[1] [2] [3] Gaite(गैट) Get (गेट)[4] Getae (गेट) Gate (गेट) is Gotra of Jats. They live in Haryana, Rajasthan[5], Madhya Pradesh.

Origin

This gotra is said to be originated from word Getae of Greek language used for Jats.[6]

History

Originally they were settled in Ajmer district from where moved to Karwas village in Kotputli and to Pera village in Mahendragarh district in Haryana. Some families of this gotra moved from Haryana to Madhya Pradesh and started cultivation in areas around Bhopal.

H. G. Keene, [7] writes that There is also a thriving little principality — that of Dholpur — between Agra and Gwalior, under a descendant of the Jat Rana of Gohad, so often met with in the history of the times we are now reviewing (v. inf. p. 128.) It is interesting to note further, that some ethnologists have regarded this fine people (Jats) as of kin to the ancient Get, and to the Goths of Europe, by whom not only Jutland, but parts of the south-east of England and Spain were overrun, and to some extent peopled. It is, therefore, possible that the yeomen of Kent and Hampshire have blood relations in the natives of Bharatpur and the Panjab.

Jat Gotras Namesake

  • Geta Emperor‎‎ - Geta (/ˈɡɛtə/ GHET-ə; 7 March 189 – 19/26 December 211) or Publius Septimius Geta was Roman emperor with his father Septimius Severus and older brother Caracalla from 209, when he was named Augustus like his brother, who had held the title from 198. Severus died in 211, and although he intended for his sons to rule together, they proved incapable of sharing power, culminating with the murder of Geta in December of that year.[8]
